Half of those things could be modeled by using a bare coax connector, like what you get at Home Depot to put on the end of wire. Just leave out the wire and you'd have something looking close. I know it is an ART class, so are these supposed to be rendered with paper and paint, or is using a pre-existing something close allowed? |

Wing edges don't look too bad today. We will probably still do a little body work on some of the noticeable "dents" but they are pretty shallow, and should cover over fairly easily.
Many students are taking a day off of the shuttle to work on a bear rug, so I'm not sure how far we will get today. |
|
What is your plan to deal with the white between the tiles? will you airbrush the whole underside of the wing with a matte black or gray?
The real shuttle spaces between the tiles definitely don't look white. |

It may be from the gasses and burning on lift off, but they are clearly light in this photo. You know, my favorite photo. http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/sts-114/hires/iss011e11078.jpg There will be lots of airbrushing over the tiles before we are all done. Hopefully, it will look fairly authentic when finished. |

The white burn marks, you might be able to recreate with an airbrush, with very low paint flow.
Or, you could possibly use ground (with sandpaper) white chalk, applied with a brush, then affixed with a matte finish spray paint (Krylon makes it, and available at Wal Mart) |

We hope to have a large view of earth from space.....1/2 Earth rising? Something like that. Above it will be the full poem by John Gillespie Magee- High Fight Next to that, or near it will be part of Reagan's speech after the Challenger disaster. We've got some students lined up to start this, soon, or at semester. |

An easy way to achieve the white streaking on the tiles would be to use posit-notes as a quick mask, and hit it with an airbrush.

Seems the only way forwards is an endowment for an Art Museum attached to the High School, where he can make his own false ceilings any color, and at a safe distance. Then his school might get associated with artists, and Guns would quit due to the liberal influx. Best leave it as it is, now that I think about it.
