Are you fucking joking? Russia has been our enemy since 1917 with a very brief "the enemy or our enemy is our temporary friend" from 1941-1945.

They shoot down our planes and drones, they harass our ships, and they have done so for 100 years.

They fuck our allies, attack them, infiltrate, and invade them. They didn't stop doing this after the USSR fell.

They arm our enemies and fund them, train them, feed them intelligence.

They fuck our interests.

They believe they should be the dominant power, but they are weak so they ally with our prime enemy, Communist China.

They are a military enemy with more NUKES pointed at us than the rest of the planet has combined.

Their military threat status didn't end suddenly in 1991.

Ukraine wanted to trade more with us, which is a major reason Russia invaded. 40M people, they were a 200B economy and are going to be a huge US customer in the future, unless they end up Russia.

Ukr isn't even a worthwhile trading partner. Most of the 1.5 billion we import (70%) from them is Steel and Iron which we could do at home.

A non NATO Ally doesn't destroy a NATO member's asset such as the Nord Stream Pipe Line.  That would invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

Looks like Ukraine is using ?????????? to cloud your mind.

You call Russia's aggressive invasion of a country of 40 million that is the size of Texas with the goal to annex it just like the Nazis annexing France and Poland... "a border dispute over administrative boundries." Yea that bullshit is straight up Soviet propaganda level.

Russia blew up the Nordstream.

Russia was NOT getting along with Western Europe BEFORE they blew up the pipeline.

Do you get your talking points from Tucker and Lavrov?

Russia, China, and Iran are collectively fucking up US interests in and BEYOND their regions. That affects US trade and US interests in a free world with rules based international relations and trade. I've already explained why China needs us pinned down in Europe, ME, and more. We have to reject aggressive international expansion and help Ukraine win the war quickly without American blood.

Otherwise, we'll eventually have to pay the blood price down the line when our enemies are stronger.

We are a Maritime nation, always have been. We built the system that makes us the greatest nation in history.

International trade is 30% of our economy. China and Russia want that pie, plus power. Iran just wants the Islamic apocolypse and global islamism.

Being isolationist will be our downfall, economically and politically.

And what value does getting a bunch of Russians and Ukrainians killed bring to the US?

Russia, China and Iran have 0 ability to project power outside their regions. Until the US blew up Nordstream Russia had a strong incentive to get along with western Europe.

Border disputes over the old administrative boundaries of the USSR are not a vital security concern here in the US.

I've been pondering if the sudden spike in money printing is a last ditch effort to soften the impact when the global derivatives market collapses.  Same with nations suddenly deciding they need a major war.  Nothing jumps starts an economy like war.

Everyone is focused on the inflation and reckless print and spend policies.  If I were the Fed and I saw a coming collapse of derivatives it would be hard to disagree with tossing as much cash as possible out to soften the impact as rehypothecation kicks in and people find out if their bets had value or are worthless.  Last I checked the derivatives market exceeded the amount of currency on the planet, that taking a plunge I bet would be more than slightly deflationary.

Is there a chance we are missing an elephant in the room?

I'm rather dispassionate about this myself.

I already know that the .gov isn't going to do the right thing in any given scenario.

I just don't care any more.

Would it be better to mind out own business and stop spending money on foreign aid? Yes, it would.

Is that ever going to happen? No, it's not.

That said, Putin and Biden are both hard lefties. I do mildly enjoy watching authoritarian leftists duke it out.

NATO Chief Warns of 'Bad News' for Ukraine After Failed Counteroffensive

"NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has warned that Western powers should be prepared for "bad news" from Ukraine in the wake of Kyiv's failed "counter-offensive" against occupying Russian forces.

Amid growing concerns about Ukraine's ability to continue the fight against the much larger Russian military and failures to recapture any meaningful amount of territory from Moscow's army, there are growing whispers in the halls of power in the West about the ex-Soviet state's prospects in battling back its former master."

Every drop makes the ocean. An ocean that we will one day drown in, despite the "rah rah 'Murica" bullshit that a few posters (not you) have been pushing here. The greatest country the world has ever known may stop being as great if we don't start to fix this problem of psycho unhinged spending... and encouraged/rewarded invasion of various groups with ill intent, as well as people who come here to get (not make) whatever they can lay their mitts on (which is an increasing drain on our resources). Is the greatest country in the world willing to enslave its own population to lavish the result of said slaves' work, on non-Americans... at the peril of its own citizens?

I'm pro Uke (and Israel), but I'm mostly pro-AMERICA and want us to continue to be the greatest. Damnit this shit has be scaled the fuck back or it's gonna drown us. This notion that we'll always be great just because "we're awesome" is foolish. Debt factors in people's lives, especially when it's smothering levels. We're fucking our kids and grandchildren over with this spending spree.
