I've been drinking stouts and porters for almost 30 years (before that I was a peasant beer drinker).

UPDATE 9/16/22 - PLEASE RATE YOUR BEERS WHEN YOU POST WITH THE FOLLOWING:

- PHOTO OF POURED BEER IN A GLASS WITH BOTTLE OR CAN
- NAME OF BREWERY
- NAME OF BEER
- TYPE OF BEER (STOUT OR PORTER)
- ABV%
- TEXTURE (SMOOTH, CRISP, RUNNY, THICK, ETC.)
- CARBONATION (HEAVY OR LIGHT, SMALL OR LARGE BUBBLES, NITROGEN OR C02, ETC. )
- BITTERNESS/HOPPS
- DESCRIBE TASTE
- PRICE
- OPTIONAL: PHOTO OF GUN WITH BEER (HEY, THAT'S HOW WE ROLL!)

FEEL FREE TO RATE A BEER THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN RATED. WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR OPINION.

Also visit the Fall, Octoberfest, and Pumpkin Beer Page
-------------

This one is one my absolute favorites:

Samuel Adam's Honey Porter was also a favorite in the 1990s. Although I hate hops, I will put up with a lightly hoppy dark beer. Feel free to tell me about your less/no hops stouts and porters. (Yes, I still like Guinness!)

(This is like my first non-political non-gun post! Feels, weird...)

When I go to a bar I ask them what's your darkest beer. If they say Guinness, I ask, what's your second darkest?

Nothing against Guinness, I just had too much of it in my 20s and I'm ready to move on.

And if you've ever had this, then Guinness tastes like Miller Light.

A good porter is hard to find. I’ve had a few, but you have to look. Moon Raker is good. Also look at some of the German winter brews.

Yes to all of the above, I have some barrel-aged Rasputin, KBS, and Goose Island Bourbon County stouts waiting for New Year's eve...

OP and FP both NI.

I had a bottle of Fuller's London Porter for the first time tonight. Very good.

Like the OP I prefer maltier beers over hoppy beers. IPAs are nasty.

Old Raspy is a classic and one of my standbys.

Around the holiday season I love to find a bottle of Xocoveza from Stone.

Black Butte Porter from Deschutes is great too.

I enjoy that chocolate stout too OP.

I like very few styles of beer. Stouts/Porters and Cream Ales.

I'm half Ukrainian but I will still try it! LOL!  I think I have seen it. We have one of the top beer stores (as far as variety) on the USA- only about 45 minutes away.

Yes, oatmeal stout is awesome and I think it was the first Samual Smith beer I ever had back in the 90s. I've had Brooklyn as well.

Spatan Optimator! Holy crap I forgot about that one for at least a decade! Great beer! Kind of nutty from what I recall. I will have to pick one up. Haven't had it in at least 10 years.

Old Chub from Oskar Blues is one of my favorite Scottish ales.  KC Bier Co has a very good Winter Bock.  Both are dark and heavy.

Stouts and porters are my favorite styles overall. I've enjoyed many of those mentioned/pictured above.

While a lot of things have gone to shit in the last several decades, beer is not one of them. Sure, there have been some silly trends like crazy bitter IPAs, but overall there is increased access to a wide variety of awesome beers, often for a reasonable price.

I'm not a huge fan of the chocolate stuff.  For stout, my go to is Sam Smith's oatmeal stout.  Just picked up a few more bottles yesterday.

This brewery in NH makes a great porter.  The best bottled porter I've found is Alaskan smoked porter.
