Depending on the lay of the land and watching eyes, if the pond is roughly 35' diameter by 8' deep that is only 70 to 80,000 gallons (actually less with banks sloped up). The average 3" pump does 370 gallons per minute so you could have that pumped out in 4 or 5 hours.
Get a metal detector, some friends that don't mind getting dirty and have at it. |

Pro-tip Pound a stake on each bank and attach the suction hose to a rope (cheap cloths line works). This way you can keep the suction hose inlet up above the weeds and sludge and adjust the depth you have it set to as needed. |

Just for my information. How long do you have to report your item is missing?
OP did you call and see if your local LEO if they wanted to do a drill search in your pond? I know it will bring the man into your life, but i actually like some of my LEO's. |

if you're going to dive the area: Mark out the boundaries of the search area using PVC pipe, buoys on weights, etc. then start the diving. Expect that it will be zero visibility and deal with it. All a light will do is make you realize when you've stirred the bottom sediment into the water column to generate "Black Water" Don't wan to dive ? If there is a Sunbelt equipment rental yard close by, go rent a 3" honda trash pump, 50' of suction hose, 100' of discharge hose for a day. See if they have a metal detector for rent. Purchase 10 gallons of gasoline. Pump the water out of the pond. Wear old clothes that you can throw away when you're done Slog out into the area that you thought it went into Go out there and find the can Throw what you wearing in the trash Go get a hot shower Take the rental equipment back to the rental yard |

Think a fish finder on a kayak would at least get you close to it?

@slims_88
It is still very sunk, unfortunately. It's sucks because we have a good location but: The bottom sucks It's cold There's lots of similar sized stick. The only thing that's going to change is the water temp. Then we could spend all day looking for it. |

Get a big Kastmaster. I catch all sorts of shit with those. Shopping carts and other metal garbage.
ETA: Need to get him a childs floatie to put on it for next time... |

Sorry about the suppressor. Could you rig up an underwater camera and metal detector? Seems like for 500$ you should have a workable system.
