I will say he a little stupid with the botox.

Stallone apparently figured it out, Mickey O'Rourke on the other hand... There's an interesting Rogan clip where he talks about O'Rourke, his misadventures in boxing and how he ended up damaged mentally and physically from it.

I don't know, in sit down long form interviews Frank is a lot less like a caricature and a more interesting guy. On Adam Carolla's podcast he told a story about jogging through Hollywood and a rooster kept attacking him so one morning he brought his 38 loaded with rat shot and killed the rooster.

One of the cops I worked with was a former pro boxer, we were sparring one day....keep in mind, I kickboxed for over 20 years prior to this event, he hit me with a liver shot that hurt so bad I thought I had been stabbed.   I spent 2 weeks recovering from it, never felt anything like it.

I took an ugly liver shot at a kickboxing tournament when I was a teenager.  Before that, I thought I was a tough bastard.  After that, I wanted to sit in a corner and cry.  I literally walked right into it.

I was Facebook friends with a guy I went to basic training with and he was friends with one of our DS's, a 6'6" quirky asshole who did martial arts. There was a pic of him blocking a shot in a basketball league and someone commented 'send that shit back to Africa'. ??

Sounds like a guy wanting to depict reality on screen and do the best job he could. Willing to suffer for his art and being extremely fit not unreasonable to believe he may be able to take a punch.

I don’t detect stupidity just a little over confidence ( assuming the story is true not a made up Hollywood anecdote )

Exactly.

OP sounds like a pussy. What guy training hard wouldn't want to go toe to toe with the real deal?

Hell, a good punch by a strong man in a bar can kill if things go wrong. Someone with real training against someone without?

Especially someone that good?

I know who I'm betting on.

Actors are a special kind of retard. They spend their whole lives pretending to be many things they're not. The end result is that they don't know their own limitations as a human because it's not written into the script. All they know is to memorize their lines and to try their best to sound like they're really that person.

Take DeNiro for example, his pansy ass thinks he's really on the level of mobster Jimmy Burke. The truth is closer to delusions of grandeur. I have no doubt Stallone really thinks he's as tough as the fictional character Rocky Balboa.

Getting hit is part and parcel of fighting. If taking hits from pro-fighters were untenable, whoever scored the first shot would win. Fighters eat repeated shots, regularly.

The difference is whether you've impact conditioned your body to withdtand those impact levels.

When I ran a martial arts club in college, the impact conditioning was probably what drew the biggest crowd of onlookers while we were training in the rec center.

For the kickboxers/muay thai guys, one of the standard body conditioning exercises was to pair up and alternate trading round kicks to the body with arms raised.  We'd start at medium low power and work up. The fun part is, when the partner catches you with a good one, you want to get them back a little harder.

Adrenaline kicks in and it quickly becomes a "who can make the other person quit first?" competition, as each person kicks harder and harder. The thwap, thwap, thwap, Thwap, THwap. THwap, THWAP, THWAP, THWAP,  always drew a crowd.

A few of us who'd done a LOT of impact conditioning, would regularly have people come up and tell us, "You guys are effin NUTS! If you can shrug off shots like that, again and again, I definitely don't want to mess with you guys!".

Lundgren was another legit fighter. European Kyokushin full contact Champ (bare knuckle karate tournaments. Their rules don't allow punches to the head. Punches to the body. Kicks and knees can go to body, head and legs).

Tex Cobb is the toughest person I have ever seen take punches and kicks that would drop a horse and smile after every round.

Some pro fighters could dish it out but some also had glass jaws.
Taking shots to the head or body is not good for you.

Boxing is harder on your body than MMA , IMHO.
Taking 150 jabs or shots to your body each round for 12 or 15 rounds is more than most MMA bouts.
