These got me! James Bond-PPK Dirty Harry-S&W 44 Magnum NCIS-Sig 229 Lethal Weapon/Die Hard-Beretta 92FS
How bout you? |
I will admit that Band of Brothers did have a strong influence on my desire to acquire an M1 Garand. I had the Carbine already.
Die Hard 2 and LAPD: Life on the Beat made me buy my Beretta 92
I try not to let my guns watch too many movies or tv shows. Bad influences, they would all start making cocking noises when I pointed them and expect to never run out of ammo.
Omega man made me buy a crappy sw76 knock off. Not as a shooter but just to have.
The absolute best impact a TV show had on my gun collection was ran from 1986-1988, the title, "Sledge Hammer!" That show is super sweet! If you don't know or can't remember, go to google and type in "Sledge Hammer TV show."
James Bond - "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997): I found out about the new Walther P99 this way and later bought an olive drab .40 S&W version later on.
Liberal Hollywood promoting gun sales - how ironic! |
After seeing Red Dawn when I was a teenager in the 80s, I was sure I needed an AK.
One of the COD WWII games got me interested in Bren LMGs, and I bought a semi version later on based on that original interest.
The Band of Brothers movies also "made" me go get a Springfield 1911-A1 GI model. I'd say the pic threads here and the photo spreads in American Handgunner are more responsible for my irrational gun purchases than any movie. |
pretty much every 80s action movie and tv show is partially to blame for my uzi obsession/ownership.
I tapco-fucked my AK so it would look more like my favorite rifle in Fallout 3
Enemy at the Gates made me go get a CN marked mosin sniper. To Kill a Mockingbird made me go get a single shot bolt action .22 in case I need to shoot my neighbors rabid dog.
My G.I. Joes when I was growing up (the original 12" ones with military uniforms and gear, not the smaller later pretenders in wannabe superhero costumes) are no doubt what originally made me want AR-15s (and M1s, M1 Carbines, etc.), but the old S.W.A.T. TV series is what made me want racks of multiple ones all neatly lined up... and the movie Taps just reinforced that desire.
Not a movie, but playing Red Dead Redemption made me buy my first Cowboy gun, a Ruger Vaquero.
I think I let TV/Movies influence my gun buying for a short while when I first started shooting. It hasn't been a factor for years, though.
I got my first P7M8 after watching Die Hard.

I have purchased several guns based on tv/movies that I liked.
SPAS-12 Terminator/The Hitcher Colt AR15 Dawn of the Dead 1919a4 Kellys Heroes Not quite as much fun as having a real prop from a movie, but its a connection. |
Leathal Weapon (I think) Gibson emptying the Beretta 92 at the helicopter - like 30 straight rounds.
Band of Brothers - Garand. |
Beverly Hills Cop (ther first one) started my 1911 addiction...
Nice. I hear that the folks who work at Wildey can always tell when Death Wish III is aired because they see a spike in business almost without fail. |

These got me! James Bond-PPK Dirty Harry-S&W 44 Magnum NCIS-Sig 229 Lethal Weapon/Die Hard-Beretta 92FS How bout you? Exact same movies and handguns here, except for NCIS and the Sig 229 (I have a P220 and P226). ETA My .44 magnum is a S&W 629 Classic Hunter. |
I bought "Book of Eli" just to see an HK45 in a movie. Does that count?

Call of duty is fueling mu urge to suppress everything I own. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile If only all you needed to do was rack up 10 kills with it... The new Black Ops makes me want to get my S&W 908 turned into an ASP lookalike, but then it looks fine as it is and it runs great so why mess with it? If I do anything to it, I'll probably just pick up some Meprolights and be done with it. I still want to find a 3913 in regular, TSW, and/or LS trim. They really are great little pistols. They pop up used here and there for pretty cheap, too, and I'll probably end up buying more as I find them. |
I've got a PPK, and I swear to all that is Holy that I will have Jack Bauer's HK USPc 9 one of these days.

Zulu! I blame my whole Martini -Henry addiction on that movie. "The sentries are back from the hill Sir,and they report Zulus to the south......... thousands of them."
I blame The Terminator for my Ithaca 37, and John Wayne movies for my Marlin 336. Magnum Force got me started liking Colt DA revolvers. No Pythons yet in my collection, but I am not sorry for the 3 I have.
There are a lot of movie guns on my want list, though, that I am yet to get: Colt Detective Special - Beverly Hills Cop, The Road House Beretta 92 - Lethal Weapon, Die Hard Walther PPK - James Bond Smith & Wesson 4506 - Street Kings AMT Hardballer - The Terminator Zombieland got me wanting a pump action rifle, too. |
I blame all of Hollywood in the 80s for the obsession with the MP5.
A stamped sheet metal gun that now sells for thousands and thousands. |
Die Hard and Lethal Weapon pushed me to buy a Beretta 92... Still have it and still love it.

Die Hard and Lethal Weapon pushed me to buy a Beretta 92... Still have it and still love it. I finally got one this year just because of those movies. Like other folks, Red Dawn made me horribly fixated on AK's for a long time. |
None of my current guns were influenced by TV,Movies, or Anime().
That's not to say I don't want a Jericho 941 in 45ACP, a P-90, M1897 trench gun, Walther P-99, a pair of Beretta 92s or a semi-auto .454 casull loaded with silver shells. |
Jurassic Park made me want a SPAS-12
Die Hard made me want an MP-5 Saving Private Ryan made me want an M1 Garand Don't own any of them |
Quoted: Is that a Calico? I've wanted one of them since I saw Drive.I come in peace |
