Only 22lr is 25 yards, .223 (or larger) is 50 yards. If that was .22lr then write down the group sizes on the targets and also type them in the text of your post. I'll do the math. If that was a .223 or anything larger then .22lr you'll have to do it at 50 yards. All I need is picture of 1.) set up, 2.) overall target with group sizes written on sheet next to each group and 3.) close up on best group with rule or calipers on group. |

Snip Good job. That 1.46 was what your average group size was, you then take that number 1.46" divide by distance in yards so 1.46/25= 0.0584 now take that and multiple by 100 so 0.0584 x 100= 5.84 MOA ETA: I shot my M&P 15-22 but I ended up miss counted and shot a 4 shot group and a 6 shot group but on that target my best group were two groups of 0.98" and a large group of 1.7", the MOA on that 5.28 I need to redo it next time I go out and learn how to count |

Snip... ETA: Why not smallbore at 50 feet? That's a pretty standard distance for 22 LR. I've always just done 25 yards Plus it would be impossible to get an MOA out of it, the diameter of the bullet would be bigger then the size needed to even shoot 1 MOA at the distance. You'd have to shoot roughly a 0.17" group if I did my math right. At 50 feet = 16.66 yards. (0.17" /16.66 yards) x 100 = 1.02 MOA Not that the ~ 0.03" left over from a 22lr to get a 0.25" group is gonna be a piece of cake but it is possible... I did shot a 4 shoot group practicing for Appleseed that measured 0.27"! The 5th round killed it |

I will also be doing magnified .22lr @100 with a CZ 453 American later this week, will try it with 5 different types of ammo.

I suggested that they have two classes , one for 22LR and one for the 17HMR , they didnt want the headaches .......the 17HMR absolutely dominated the class . I havent shot her from the bench in over a year , but my Savage 93-17 Varmint makes exceptionally small groups at 100yds with Remington Premiere ammo |

If she/he hits, no one else can shoot and she/he is safe. If the first shooter misses, the second shooter shoots. If she/he hits, that knocks the 1st shooter out. If she/he misses, the third shooter shoots. If she/he hits, he knocks the 1st two out. If all three miss, all are safe. If the 1st shooter shoots and misses, the second shooter breaks and the 3rd shooter shoots, shooter 1 and 3 are out. For the next round, the second shooter shoots first at the next target, with the 3rd and 4th backing on that target…and so on. Remember, if any person shoots and breaks, and the shooter after him shoots, the shooter who shot at the dead target is out. If you go to 5 shooters at once and the 1st four miss, the 5th shooter is shooting at a target close to hitting the ground. Thrilling and usually causes a roar from the group. Lots of fun!!! Last one standing wins the pot I'll stop hijacking this neat thread now |

But just for the purpose of this challenge I can't add it due to it being a year old, no offense. Do a new set like that and post it and I think you may be hard to beat! No offense taken... I wasn't necessarily trying to "win", just trying to demonstrate what top-drawer rifles are truly capable of. With someone who really knows how to shoot, this is probably an honest .25-.3" rifle, but you saw the fliers... One thing I do find extremely interesting is how unaffected by load this rifle seems to be. I can basically pick any bullet and velocity node (within pressure limits of course) and it will pretty much shoot really close to that. The only load that shot poor was 140 Hybrids over RL17. If this barrel had more life in it, I'd be more inclined to go out and print an "official" target. But I rarely waste it on paper, especially at 100 yds, and I'm really hoping to make it through next year without rebarreling. I do load development at 5-600 yds. now so I can verify ES/vertical. I'm with you though. Lots of accuracy claims out there without much statistical follow through. In my experience there are not many "hunting rifles" that will print 25 sub-moa shots. There might be a few of the "off-the-shelf" tactical rifles with heavier barrels that can do it. I've seen some pretty impressive groups from the Tikka Tactical and Varmint rifles as well as the Remington's, but most of those were isolated and not 5 groups of five on a page. It definitely makes things real. I applaud the challenge. Let the data continue to come in. John |
