With all the talk about BLM BLM BLM its easy to forget racism &ethnic hatred extends beyond one part of our history or one group. Racism & hatred as a whole is an ugly thing.

Because most people then were White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, and having a bunch of Ginger Celtic Papists around upset them.

ETA: and because the Italians and Slavs hadn't arrived yet.

Same with the Catholics.

Nope those signs didn't exist.

They're a modern created kitch for Irish folks too hang in their rec rooms.

There was "no irish" listed on things like nanny type positions, but the widespread myth that signs were up and Irish were looked on like blacks is pure horse shit.

the Brits have always hated the Irish.

by the 1920s, the Irish were hating the Italians and Slavic nationalities. Everybody gets their turn in the barrel.

At what point in history could a black man own an Irish man? How many Irishmen were lynched from 1700 to 1963? Not really the same thing.

They were still looked down upon. That is the point I was trying to make.....Doesn't make it any less cruel.

If you want to shut up your average sheeple progressive tell them that Africans captured fellow Africans and gave them over to the Europeans who in turn turned them into slaves.

Native Americans employed slavery into their tactics when conquering rival tribes.

The first black slaves in colonial English America were sold as indentured servants. Yes, it's a form of slavery.

Irish culture was more primitive than English culture, and in the 1600s Ireland was colonized by English and Scottish protestants.

You are not quite correct either.  Most Irish emigrated here in the mid 19th Century.  They were Catholics and they came because the British were practicing ethnic cleansing in Ireland.  At that time the No Nothing Party was vary popular in the North.  They hated Catholics, Blacks, Jews and just about anyone else that was not a member of the party.  They were the pre Civil War Northern version of the KKK.  The Irish came desperate and hungry and would work for whatever wages were offered so they worked cheap taking jobs from people already here.

One set of my ancestors were German Catholic and came to America in 1845 or so.  Because of their religion no one would hire them.  So them moved to northwestern PA to farm and eventually started a successful lumbering business as no one would hire them.  One of them, Michael Weidert became a country commissioner in Elk County PA.  Money seems to set aside a lot of prejudices.

In Louisiana the Celts, including the Irish, were brought in to build the levees and canals. This work was extremely dangerous, and slaves were considered to expensive to  lose while they were doing the task. That is how the Welsh side of the family came here.

The reason there’s so many Italians named Tony, is that when they were immigrating to the US, they didn’t speak English. So when they boarded the ships for New York, the Italian immigration officials pinned notes on their coat that said:

TO
NY
