Notice the one thing missing from the headlines is that no one said they heard s.o.s or any other repeatable sounds.  Just noises which could be any thing. Could be their lungs or ear drums exploding. Or the hull creaking as it gets crushed.    If I was stuck in a sub I would be doing  s.o.s along with prime numbers and any other repeatable sequences I could think of.

So who does this without an operational plan if something goes wrong. This company seemed to have no plan if something went wrong.

I hope the families sue them out of existence.

So if you killed the two company employees how long could three survive?

Because once a thread exceeds about 10 pages, it becomes utterly useless and has long devolved into a random offshoot-random-topical debate between the 3 people still there.

A year or two from now this thing will wash up on a beach somewhere.  They'll determine the sub surfaced as designed but they couldn't get the hatch open and they ran out of air.

I bet the billionaire would give up all worldly possessions and money to get to dry land.

I'm sure those billionaires (if they're still alive) would no doubt trade every penny to their name to be on land again. They'd rather be homeless in Seattle right now.

I saw a video once, where they brought up a deep sea diving bell from such depths that was bolted shut from the outside. They pulled the first 1” bolt out, and it blew 100’ across the deck and high pressure water jetted that same 100’ as well, as a seal leaked and the inside was full of sea water the same pressure as the sea had been at 10,000’ or whatever. You would have died even if you had a scuba tank to breathe from.

Fuck that.

I wouldn’t do it for $10,000 , if it was a nasa level funded / safety nazi set up,  zero zero zero chance I’d use this jerry rigged corner cutting company.

44 psi per 100 ft.

5775 psi at 13,000 ft, give or take.

Not super high, I've seen higher, usually contained in stainless tubing or hoses designed for the pressure and seawater isn't usually the fluid in question.

Saw around 550 psi once on a gauge reading static sea pressure. Lots of creaks and groans happened all around me. Somewhat uncomfortable, especially knowing some of the coners that usually operated the sub.

You gotta figure the father-son duo have the upperhand.

Then you have a 77 year old man, and the 2 crew members (I think.)

I don't think I'd kill the crew unless I knew how to troubleshoot the sub.

It would be the stuff of legends!  That would be fantastic.

But... yea.   As to the sounds they are hearing... well, when I crumple up a piece of paper and throw it into the trash can, sometimes it will make a sound here and there for a bit, as it settles and and unfolds itself a bit.

There was a book in the Titanic's library, named Futility: The Wreck of the Titan about an "unsinkable" ocean liner that sank after striking an iceberg in the  North Atlantic.

I'm not superstitious, but I also don't know if I'd have named the submersible "Titan". Seems a lot like tempting fate.

Most can't, but the Alvin can and went into service in 1964.

There's others, but she's probably the most famous of the subs with this capability.

What are the sounds they are hearing? Does it replicate dashes and dots? They wouldn't want to admit that...too much outcry of not being able to rescue them as it proves they are alive.

All that coin to take a dive, and no synthetic recovery rope? Stuff is light as fuk when in water, no need for steel cable.

The chances of being rescued is remote. There are very few submersibles that can go that deep, some that like 2.5 miles.
