Whoever the VP pick is, it needs to be somebody who is a slam-dunk candidate for 2028 to carry on. They need to look at this as the next Republican candidate for president; not simply a running mate in this election cycle. The VP pick needs to approach the nomination as the presumptive candidate to run for president in the next cycle. Republicans need to improve their minor league roster to have suitable candidates to call up to the major leagues. They don't seem to do well with that. There is no depth. If Trump were not the nominee, the Republicans would have to scramble to put up a candidate to beat the Biden machine and despite all of Biden's weaknesses, I don't think they could this go around.

Quoted: Trump lives in Florida as do two people on the list. The president and vice president cannot be from the same state. Who’s going to relocate? View Quote The Constitution does not say that the Pres and VP cannot be from the same state. What it says is that electors from that particular state cannot cast a vote for both if they are from the same state. That means that they would cast votes for Pres but not for VP in Florida. In a close race, you could end up with a Republican Pres and Democrat VP as a result. Picking a VP from a different state, however, would allow the Florida electors to cast ballots for both Pres and VP and put the Republican VP nominee above the Democrat VP nominee in total electoral votes. |
