I wonder if it gets dirty enough to actually need cleaning.

That's the first suppressed AK I've ever seen.

mjohn3006 on here has one IIRC.

It sure is, but I hope it gets put in a museum: it is still an ugly part of history

Let's just say there may or may not have been a shipping container(s) at a certain Seabee Camp in Kuwait that was loaded with items that came out of Iraq. The official story was this stuff was "Supposed" to be donated to the Seabee Museum but some of the stuff "May" have be destined for the Admiral's personal collection.

To answer DT120's question:
No.  Although rumored to exist, I have never seen an AK-74 or variant thereof in Iraq.  However, one Zarqawi video featured an AK-74 variant, with the pathetic grenade launcher attached.  So...one existed. Most things found were plain-vanilla communist-bloc AKMs, with a few SVD Dragunovs, more Romanian PSLs than Dragunovs, lots of PKs (Russian and Romanian w/ light and heavy barrels), two Hakims I had, Tokarevs (TT33), SKSs ("Siminovs)  "Tariqs" (think single-stack Beretta), and some Star BMs in 9x19 and .380!  Also, I've seen two Colt Diamondbacks, a Detective Special, a Browning "Sweet 16", many airguns, and a nickeled US Property .45 with a nickeled Commander slide.
––Oh...and also a 98k Mauser (1944), and many SMLEs.  I've only had one Makarov in my hand.  ..and a KPV machinegun last year (ZPU-1 when mounted)  ..oh..and Iranian G3s..

I am under the impression that a lot of the souvenirs were collected on a unit level during OIF1.  For example, the head from the Saddam statue the M1 took out (one of my instructors of Military Science 101 was in that platoon) is sitting at Fort Knox.

If there ever were a "good ol' days" for bring backs from Iraq, they're over.

How well do they inspect the mail that comes in and goes out?  Does Iraq have a FedEx hub?  Ship it back one piece at a time.  If only America was a free country that still let men have souvineers.  Hell, I'd go over there just to plunder like the generations before me have.  When my family went overseas in war, if it wasn't nailed down, it was taken, and pry bars were taken to what was nailed down.

They X-ray the fuck out of it, after hand inspecting....

I'm sure they x-ray it, but I'm here to tell you that when you hand inspect it, they come up with all reasons not to allow you to bring back or ship the stupidest shit.

I had dinner at a guy's house back in 2002 and he he was very proud to show me a SVD and Full auto ak.  He got them back and I'm also sure he didn't know what he just got himself into.  I was in shock that I just meet the guy and he was showing me this shit.  I was in awe.

Can't really see the markings, but this weapon was made in Germany during the war and presented to the Shah of Iran.  All of the markings are in Persian.  From what I understand, it is very rare.  It is in an Army museum somewhere now.
