There seem to be some bugs to work out yet and recoil is excessive. For an extra 8oz, just get a P308 edge with fluted barrel. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

SCARs suck ass. They are a solution looking for a problem. I would have sold it for scrap if it was mine to sell.

AR10/LR308/SR25 isn't any heavier or lighter than a FAL, but try to shoulder a 20+" AR10 and connect hits. The AR is too nose heavy and is difficult to steady. For being able to shot off of support, I'd say a 308 based AR with an optic - moving and trying to make hits, the FAL shoulders and balances better so long as you're good with irons.
Now, I've never been on a 2-way firing range and hope to keep it that way - but when trying to make steel hits the above is true from past exposure. |

An AR-10. I own a bunch of different battle rifles and it's just the best.

SCAR 17 once you shoot one you realize it is the best option.

@JAG2955
16.25" That ACR adaptor is from the first prototype run on falfiles quite a few years ago....I think you're the copycat lol. |

For a true, rugged battle rifle suitable for combat accuracy, definitely the FAL. If you run out of ammo you can beat your enemy to death with it. Nothing about it says "flimsy". Don't get me wrong--I love my DPMS in 6.5 Creedmoor for long range shooting, but if it fell out of the rifle rack I'd worry something would break. When one of my FALs fell out of the rifle rack I worried only about finish damage.
Of course, the downside to the FAL is that it doesn't hold a candle to the AR-10 types in the accuracy department, but if 4 MOA is your accuracy threshold, then the FAL will serve fine. |

I'd go with a 7.5" AR10, just make sure you use a muzzle break.

OP it depends on why you want a 7.62 x 51 Battle Rifle.....
For Cold War awesomeness: FAL The Imbel built Springfield Armory SAR-48 version if you can find one, in my opinion best version of FAL ever made. PTR-91 GI with the paddle mag release is a great second choice. I miss ours but it went away in a trade. For actually going out and shooting and tailoring to your specific needs, mounting optics, etc.: AR10 I have an Armalite that takes Pmags and really love it. Accurate and reliable. |

In this age it's the SR25 or SCAR
The FAL is a boomer's battle rifle. |

If I had the coin I like the SCAR 17. I have FALs from the days of cheap kits so I’ll stick with that.

Whatever you like best. There are advantages to every single one so handle them all and pick the one you like most.
As someone else suggested, include the M1 Garland in you list of potentials. |

Any of the traditional big names are a good option. FAL, G3, M14(M1A), AR10(AR308). New shit like the SCAR 17 or MR762 is also a solid option, just depends on cost really. New stuff is better than the old, but usually the cost prices those option out for most people. The old school option are still viable for a more reasonable price.
