What happened? Seems like quality is down and menu selection is slim. Well, except they added alcohol. Our local Cracker Barrel seems deserted.
I'm not impressed anymore. |
It was never good. I would eat Applebees before Cracker Barrel.
I've always found it to to be overpriced.
The only way I'd eat there is if somebody else is paying. |
I've ate cracker barrel every couple years for 30 years.
I've not noticed a change, other than as you pointed out, beer. |
Covid, inflation, problems finding workers.
Same issues every other restaurant, on some level, is facing |
It turned into "Crackhead Barrel"?
The local one here seemed fine last time I was there. Now I feel I have to go do a quality check - just to be sure. |
I never understood the appeal. Bland country food. Meh. The sandwiches/burgers were OK I guess.
It always seemed like a tiny step above TV dinner food to me

Old People Food.
Worst thing about catering to the elders is that the food has to be bland and unseasoned with low sodium. |
I ate breakfast at the one in Biloxi a couple weeks ago and it was good. No complaints.
Perhaps it varies by location. |

What's pretty impressive is the strength of the chairs. I've been to a few around the country and it's pretty...meh. But the chairs impress me. If they can hold the huge ham-beast motherfuckers that come to eat breakfast over and over, that is a feat of engineering.
I never found it that appealing. Just seemed like pretty bland food to me.
Same thing that happened to a lot of other restaurants. Covid, inflation, lack of staff, etc.
Cracker Barrel as with most eating establishments are a direct reflection of the labor-pool they have to draw from.
A lot of these “restaurants” went down hill during China Virus and they’re having trouble coming back from it.
Wife and I eat at one all the time, quality has slipped and they took the Haddock off the menu. Post is correct about old people's restaurant as we're old . Fairly consistent and the help is good at ours . We don't have a lot of options restaurant wise .

Perhaps it varies by location. View Quote Yep. This is key for any chain/fast food joint. If the manager doesn't give a shit, you get shit. |
My last time there the waitress brought me a plate of biscuits that were almost raw.
I noticed everything went to shit after adding alcohol. No idea why, most every other sit down chain in that price range offers it. But since then, it’s like the whole character of the place changed to be low rent.

Overpriced bland food that is geared towards old folks.
The only times I have eaten there were not by choice, and I have never had anything there that was worth going back for. |
Got to an appointment early about 2 weeks ago so an associate and I went for breakfast. They took our order and after waiting 50 min, we left, but not before they charged is $6.36 for two iced teas.
I hope is was worth it to them. |

Waffle House without the drunks plus a junk store selling Chinese shit.

View Quote We were there at 1130 on Thanksgiving. I thought it was a decent as usual. And the relatives who absolutely could not do Thanksgiving day, requiring we do Friday as the big meal, were all sick on Friday and canceled. Kharn |

Quoted: Quoted: Old People Food. Worst thing about catering to the elders is that the food has to be bland and unseasoned with low sodium. Ever the troll You have never been around old people, have you? Much of it based on fact in that as you age, your sense of smell and your taste buds retire also. Salt adds lots of flavor but older people also go on salt restricted diets or they self restrict [as my Dad did before he keeled over from lack of sodium, your body doesn't work well without any salt] and also play the ''low fat'' game. In other words, pretty much everything that adds or enhances flavor is quashed. Now go add a small pat of oleo-margarine [one of the worst things food wise the older generation gave to us] to your unseasoned mashed potato's. PS, I'm pretty old and I refuse to cook old people style food. It sucks. |
Every time i ate there my group were the only crackers in the barrel.
The one closest to me is always packed on Sundays after morning church. And they're always packed on Christmas Eve, too.

Sitting here thinking about it, I haven't been to one in like 10 years. No particular reason, it just hasn't come up.

I ate there recently and it looks like they changed the. breakfast menu around and removed one of my favorites, Uncle Herschel, and instead made it into a build a breakfast. However with the build a breakfast, it cost more and you get less items in total.
When I stop it's for the bacon, cheese chicken with maple syrup. Usually on the road but occasionally here at home. Maybe three times so far this year.
There's one I stopped at has the nicest people working there. Put chick fil a to shame probably. |
When they changed their breakfast menu to the build-your-meal model recently, they did it to try to hide price increases. They dropped the double-meat breakfast, which is what I usually ordered. If you build your own double meat, it was 30-50% more expensive than it used to be. I don’t eat there as much as I used to.
I like that I can get breakfast any time, which I sometimes want on the weekend after sleeping in. I don’t eat lunch or dinner there. |
Not enough equity. Someone needs to 'holla back' about their racist name, lol.
Once they dropped the Southwestern scram and hash brown casserole I quit going. Used to be a good breakfast joint.
