This is a hard question. A lot of the “inconvenience” helped make me who I am and gave me a link to the past.

Medicine is more advanced. I remember folks smoking in Hospitals and Restaurants.

Computers were a HUGE deal. And even the most basic phone blows them out of the water.

I suppose lack of modern communication.

If you were broken down in the middle of nowhere, you had a problem.

Also if you agreed to meet someone somewhere you BETTER synchronize watches. In fact, standing someone up was an even bigger deal.

I do not regret those times but I couldn’t go back.

I can't imagine road tripping here in Texas with a 55mph limit. It leaves me wondering how hard it was really enforced. There are some looooooonely stretches of road out here.

We signed up for Claydesta long distance calling when the phones got deregulated. You had to dial like 20 fucking digits to make it work. To save twenty five cents or some shit.

Bell bottoms. Disco music, although I like it now.

Low pay. I was a kid and worked minimum wage. Working your ass off and bringing home 115-120 dollars for a weeks pay. I remember working on a crab boat making 20 bucks a day and feeling like I hit the lottery.

The 70's/80's were such an idyllic time for me.

I was old enough to enjoy most everything, but young enough to miss a lot of the bullshit too.

On the other hand, going into a smoke-free bowling alley these days is just weird to me. It's unnatural, somehow.

And I don't really mind non-smoking restaurants as a rule, but man...a greasy spoon in some podunk town just off a state route needs a light haze tickling your nostrils as you sip your coffee, waiting for the waitress with the curlers in her hair to bring you your Denver omelette. That's just science.

Everyone ignored it. All the state highways were engineered for 70 mph and that's what we did, more or less.
