Growing up I watched a lot of scary movies. Back when I was a kid, The Entity scared the living shit out out of me. As an adult, I think Event Horizon is the one that gets me the most.
Edit: I told my wife about this thread. I asked her what the scariest movie she's ever seen. Without hesitation, she said Event Horizon. I forgot that we watched it at the theater. |

Don’t give me no static but The Blair Witch Project worked on me. After camping out in the woods alone-it hit home. Did the same on one of my buddies after he was lost in the woods once.
The Strangers was dang good too. Bc of all the noises you hear around your house that go unexplained and you think WTH was that!?!? |

The strangers because it is fucked up and possibly realistic, with the way people are today.
Insidious and the conjuring both were really creepy to me from a supernatural standpoint. The idea that someone from beyond has been following you around your whole life is pretty creepy |

Wolf Creek
Head on a stick freaked me out a little. I'm guessing it was partly due to it happening to the main character. |

Well, when I was 15, The Legend of Boggy Creek scared me so bad I spent several nights sleep standing in my tiny closet with the light on. View Quote |

For all time I'd go Exorcist. #2 sucked donkey balls, #3, which should have been #2 was fantastic and creepy with George C. Scott. I like #3 more as a movie than #1. Both #4s were ok.
Alien is up there, I consider it probably the best movie made. Hellraiser 1&2 were good before the rest got somewhat goofy. Watched Event Horizon again, didn't seem half as scary as first time. Sucks about the hell scenes lost with the porn stars, midgets, and amputees. |

The Zanti Misfits episode on The Outter Limits as a child, followed by Night of the Living Dead a couple years later.

Ghost Story from 1981. Really good horror movie with some great actors. Salem’s Lot miniseries was also scary.

It follows. One of the best scary movies I've seen in many years.

Event Horizon was another messed up movie. I'm definitely not a horror movie fan and I don't watch slasher flicks either, especially after working in EMS. |

The sad part it was so fucked up they made them recut the movie because it was too scary. Then that footage got destroyed. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Event Horizon, because I went into it expecting an Alien-esque movie, not, well, THAT Surprised Sinister has not been mentioned, even though ending jump scare was retarded. That shit was fucked up from the opening scene |

The Exorcist. But it was a massive social event, too. "Everybody" went to see it. It was a date movie, and probably seen by a lot of kids too young for it. High quality movie, very well done. Yeah, it kept a lot of people awake.

I'll go a slightly different direction.
One of the scariest movies to me was The Crazies, along with the intro to the game The Last of Us. The thought of having the government quarantine your town by force, and realizing there's almost nothing you can do about it, absolutely terrifies me. You just know the people will panic, which means the military/NG will panic, and a bloodbath is likely to ensue. Anyone caught trying to escape the perimeter will be shot on sight, and trying to fight your way out seems rather futile. The worst part is how these movies or storylines always seem to end... Complete quarantine, followed by eradication. Sometimes men with rifles and flamethrowers, sometimes a fuel-air explosive. Regardless of the method, the final outcome always tends to be the same. Those are the movies that frighten me the most. |

I observed the Poltergeist when I was about six years old, has stayed with me since then. The Shining and Exorcist were just so-so.
What movie featured a plumber getting his fingers chopped up in a garbage disposal and suffocated by a pipe leaking a blackish substance while he crawled under it? That, was unforgettable in my adolescent brain...! |

I watched The Strangers one night when my hubby was out of town. Not my best idea. I made my dog sleep on the bed with me and I had my pistol right next to me. Lolll |

Event Horizon is great the first time, but dumb the second
I've never seen a movie that really scared me. By scare me I mean more than jump scares, I'm talking psychological terror. Plenty of books and video games have though. My active imagination makes sure of it |
