This is probably going to get buried, but maybe ARFcom can help since this is a scary movie thread.
In the mid to late 80's I watched a movie that scared the shit out of my 10 year old self. I often wonder what the name of it was so that I could watch it now. The basic points I remember was that there was a deformed kid that was killing people and at the end someone cut his head off by swinging a piece of flat sheet metal. That's all I remember about the movie, but I do remember not sleeping for like 2 days. |

... Audition or Odishon (1999). Not the scariest, but way up there
Audition (1999) ORIGINAL TRAILER [HD 1080p] |

When I was a kid......Robert Mitchum in Cape Fear.
Had to sleep with the light on for two fucking weeks. Now, as an adult...….any movie with Amy Schumer in it. |

Best boogeyman movie: 'High Tension'
Best zombie movie: 'Train to Busan' |

Cujo.
Any movie with supernatural shit, and you know it’s just a movie. Second and third place: Dressed To Kill with Michael Caine The Edge~ Anthony Hopkins and shithead Alec Baldwin |

I’ve never seen a movie that scared me. I like horror though, it’s entertaining.
Never seen Event Horizon, I’m gonna check it out. |

I thought grave encounters was pretty scary the second one sucked. I think the most creeped out i have ever been was paranormal activity 1 and 2

Around 12 yrs old, I went to a friend's house and saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I Spit on Your Grave back to back. I was messed up for a couple of days

The Town That Dreaded Sundown scared the living daylights out of me when I was 6 or 7.
I got up, loaded my BB gun, found the largest fixed blade knife in the house, and then stashed them under my bed. The fact that it was based on a true story, relatively close to home and they never caught the killer did it for me. |

I like scary movies but they very rarely stay with me / keep me up at night.
Then I watched Bone Tomahawk. Good lord. Watching a guy get disemboweled is one thing, but the image of the troglodyte women fucked me up. There is just no way even cave men could do that to people, just no. No, no, no, nope, #nopebadger I'm out. Someone should remake The Keep. I'm convinced it could be better than average. |

I've been forcing my boys (9 and 10) to watch all of the scariest horror movies around Halloween. They've watched Alien, Event Horizon, Phantasm, lots of stuff mentioned here. They are both in agreement that The Thing (John Carpenter version) is far and away the scariest. They didn't even flinch at Alien, but The Thing is still scary for them, even knowing what's coming. I think it's the whole psychological fear/mistrust/infection thing.

The first Halloween was scary. I watched it when it first was released in a theater. It was a kind of movie that had never been done before in that way.Now these kinds of movies are a dime a dozen.

The Insidious movies were pretty creepy. That red demon is downright terrifying.

Don’t give me no static but The Blair Witch Project worked on me. After camping out in the woods alone-it hit home. Did the same on one of my buddies after he was lost in the woods once. The Strangers was dang good too. Bc of all the noises you hear around your house that go unexplained and you think WTH was that!?!? View Quote Scary to me is any kind of supernatural shit you can't hit, stab, or shoot. Edited out spoiler in case someone hasn't seen it. |

Friday the 13th came out when I was in high school. Girl I wanted to get close to suggested we go see it. I had absolutely no clue what it was. (I'd never even heard of a slasher flick to that point) The only things I knew were that she wanted to see it and I wanted her. First damn scene where girl gets her throat slit had me gasping "WHAT..................THE............FUUUUUUUUK?!?!?" It got worse from there.
Next one after that was Alien. That one had me turning lights on in the house for weeks. Latest was The Conjuring. All the various spin-offs have been good. But nothing will ever beat that original. Holy CRAP!!! Hide and go clap? No f'ing way. I'm not falling for that shit. Honorable mention goes to the Insidious series. |

When I was kid, the scariest movie to me was "Night of the Hunter" with Robert Mitchum

Quoted: Yep The Screaning Skull ! Scared me good at about 8 ! The Exorcist . And there's one about a hostel in Germany where a mad doctor cuts Achilles tendons and nasty stuff like that . View Quote My father whos now 73 said the screaming scull was very spooky as a kid, I found a copy of it years ago and picked it up to watch with him. I think I remember one of a Dr that would cut Achilles tendons also, I can't remember what it was though. |

I remember one about a ghost, some woman had a terrible husband and ended up killing him. He came back as a ghost and had crazy strength. In one scene a new guy the widow met was walking down the stairs and the ghost husband got ahold of him and just busted bones twisting him up like a pretzel
