I want to re-build an older aft-cabin 40ft sailboat with a stepable fractional sail rig and do the great loop in it. It will be at least 6 years before I can fo though. I bought my dream boat recently, I raced one for a season in the early 90's and fell in love with it. Had my old boat (32 foot sloop) for 32 years, I miss it but my best friend has it now so I still get to work on it. GF wanted a bigger boat for our next trip. Did Mexico, Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas in the old one, next is Galapagos and South Pacific. It is fast, goes upwind well, and is very well built. spent a large part of my adult life on a boat. never owned one except for a small jon boat we use on the farm. i can't say i'll ever own one, but if i did it would be a fish/hunt utility boat--nothing fancy.
as far as attracting women she better be ready to run a trotline or set duck decoys out. |

A Grumman Albatross or Mallard, and a nice Lightning that no one else sails. No club boats.

Inland dream would be a mid-30's length newer version. Offshore, I gotta second the Paul Allen's comment although a 70 footer would be plenty to bounce around the Caribbean in. |

It seems like there are a few out there (didn't think I would see any) and they seem to hover around $10k, which I didn't think was bad. That said, being unfamiliar with these boats, I don't know how well they hold up over time. The $10k could be outrageous if they are rot-buckets with unreliable, maintenance-monster engines. But it could also be good if they were built solid and taken care of. I want one. |

Whatever the marina has for rental. My reprobate uncle used to say, "If it floats, flies or fucks, renting is always better than owning". View Quote My father had a good friend, a WW II Marine vet, who he viewed with equal parts of amazement, amusement, and morbid fascination, and who I knew as “Uncle” Mike. His comment on boats: Boats are like women; I don’t want one of my own; I’d rather go for a ride on someone else’s. He was a piece of work. I loved my Uncle Mike. |

I don't think I have a dream to own a boat. I grew up boating on the Great Lakes, guess I'm not into it anymore, but, if I were to have too much money to spend, I'd get the smallest older Boston Whaler that could take 2 outboards and an old wooden/fiberglass hydroplane like what used to race in front of our house every summer. Be fun to do calm summer morning runs down the lake my family still has a house on.
Supposedly there are a few boats/motors out in the middle of the lake that sunk many years ago, I always wanted to go look. |

Quoted: That video got me twice. First I was like "I thought this was an RC boat video". The camera perspective, in the beginning, and it being towed by another RC vehicle threw me. Once it was in the water I thought "man that thing is slow", until it got on plane. Although, I kind of thought it was going to be faster. I guess I have watched too many videos of the gas powered RC speed boasts traveling insanely fast across smooth water with 10' rooster tails. Its amazing how they go from barely moving to full speed in half-a-second. But, despite my tardedness, that is a cool video of some cool RC vehicles. I did a quick look to see how much these go for and was somewhat surprised.
