I’m not interested in woke dribble like The Walking Dead series. I’m looking for a movie that will scare the crap out of my kids. I remember from when I was a kid “Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things” but with todays children the special effects would really be lame.

Any suggestions?

Shawn of the Dead: It has great humor while still set in a horrific backdrop with adequate gore

After that, there's too many good examples to really rack and stack them (I'd tip #2 to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead but I don't care for fast zombies so it loses points for that).

But yea, the zombie genre is REALLY played out at this point.

That's my favorite. The original Dawn should get on honorable mention, but Snyder really did a good job with the remake.

28 Days Later is also really good, but IDK if that falls under the "zombie" or "infected persons" genre like the '77 or '10 The Crazies.

Rager type zombies. 28 days later, Train to Busan, World War Z.

The first few Resident Evils were great if you’re looking for traditional Zombies and mutants.

Honestly, Zombie movies are like all horror movies. They’re all great in the own way, even the terrible ones.

This or the first Resident Evil with Milla Jovovich if you don't mind adding zombie dogs and monsters to the mix.

28 Day. It's pretty fucking harsh and would easily scare the shit out of me if I was a kid...

ETA, yeah, it's more of an "infected" vice zombies, but still pretty solid.

While technically not a zombie movie, I think 28DL is the benchmark for the modern zombie film.

SOTD was fun. Zombieland sucked - neither funny, nor scary. Return of The Living Dead set the bar for zombie comedies.

Train To Busan and it's animated prequel Seoul Station were both solid, as was The Sadness. (Though again, The Sadness wasn't technically a zombie movie.)
For goofy animated fun, High School of The Dead was pretty cool.

For me the only ones even mildly scary as a kid was the fast movers. It’s hard to be scared of something I can out walk. That being said:
1. Dawn of the dead - 2004
2. WWZ
3. Train to Busan
4. 28 days later
5. Alone

Too many good ones. 28 days later, I am Legend, The Crazies, etc.

I'm going with the "OG" (Not the first, but the first mainstream) zombie movie. Night Of The Living Dead.

The original Night of the Living Dead - established a whole genre, built on personal tension.
Train to Busan. Takes personal tension, and adds more layers of sympathetic characters.

Most of the others are just gore and jump scares, not character-driven like good movies should be.

French movie The Horde

A squad of cops are going after a very violent drug gang inside a high rise when the Apoc starts.

Everyone is a badass with zero compunctions about hurting anyone.

Features a zombie being beaten to death barehanded and a veteran of Dien Bien Phu with a beltfed raking a hallway.

Creepy, vicious fun.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is one of the more fun zombie movies I have seen in a while.

I really like the tall blonde in the movie.

The mention of zombie strippers reminded me of this one, since it too features a zombie stripper, and all movies are better if they feature at least one.
