I have it already a sporter Springfield 03-A4 in .458 Win Mag. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w260/lugerman_album/1903/1903458.jpghttp://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w260/lugerman_album/1903/1903serial.jpg Dang, that really bumps up the bolt thrust on that old rifle. Has this been researched for safety? dont worry its fine.. See my edit. It looks like they operate at about the same cups. 53k for the .458. I'm seeing various answers for the 06, from 50k cups to 60k psi. Given the same chamber pressure, the larger bore effectively increases the bolt thrust. (I know you already know that.) It's a beautiful rifle, but I'd be afraid to shoot it with full house loads. |

And that many rounds through a big bore is A LOT of rounds. |

458 would be nice but my 375 Ruger will work for anything I will ever use it for.
.308 will kill anything I would ever encounter in my life. I have no desire to own anything more powerful.

I personally would like to have a Ruger #1 Tropical in .416 Rigby or a .45-70 in a Marlin Guide Gun. I shot a Ruger Tropical in .416 Rigby......I was surprised that the recoil was a push and not a punch. My Marlin in 45-70 is a Cowboy! |
CZ 550 416 Rigby.
I'd download it and use it for deer. I don't need one. And I probably will never buy one. But it would be a superlative moose/bear rifle. I'd like to hunt moose some day. |

It doesn't take nearly that much to get into a Shiloh. Base rifles start at $1800. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/green_c/GUNS/216_1646.jpg The Shiloh rifles fit and finish is beautiful.....the guy I shoot with has a model similar to the "Quig", set up for 'primitive rifle match shooting' in 45-70....lol lol, he has more tied up in tang discs and globes than I do in a 42X Nightforce, but watching him make 600yd hits with irons is pretty neat.... Sporting?.....probably have that covered for me.... 416 Rigby necked to 458......can make brass out of higher pressure 338 Lapua Mag for some real brain shakers.... Suppressed or not..... |
I very much like my .458 SOCOM. I would like a .338 Lapua if the BRASS didn't cost $2 a piece.

Not .50bmg or .338 lapua? I personally would like to have a Ruger #1 Tropical in .416 Rigby or a .45-70 in a Marlin Guide Gun. I want several of those old double-barrel safari guns in the huge game calibers...just because I think they're awesome, and I secretly want to shoot one while wearing a pith helmet and a monocle. |

A 30-06 is the "12 gauge" of rifles, it's all I really want or need a hunting weight 30-06 and a colt 6920 are the only two rifles I own now I've shot a lot of rifles in my life and I don't really get too excited about hard-kicking rifles with a lot of muzzle blast and expensive ammo ammo anymore Yep, 30-06 is all you really need for any creature in North America. And a darn fine accurate round at that. |
45-70 would be big enough, but really, .308 is plenty for me.

How about a Winchester '95 in 405 Winchester if you want to play dress-up. |

I keep toying with the idea of a Rem 700 in .458 Win Mag and experimenting with some rounds based on .45 cal muzzle loader sabots. Load for the 500 grain bullet and send a sabot round just screamin' downrange. Or at least that's how it works in my mind. And even if it doesn't, I'll have a .458 Win Mag handy for a hunting trip to Alaska a friend has been talking about.
The biggest and most likely that I'm to purchase is a 45-70
Otherwise possibly a 300 WIN mag or 50 BMG |
I'd like something in 7mm Ultramag.
And of course, .458 Lott. And .577 T-Rex. I'm not saying I actually want to SHOOT any of those, though. No more than I volunteer to get my shoulder caved in by any OTHER angry mule. Of course I do consider .50 BMG to be a sporting cartridge, too, so I'd have to include a Barrett M82A1 in the list. |

Only reason I don't own one is because I don't have anywhere to shoot the thing...on my own terms. That and the ammo is expensive! It was Mark Westrom letting me shoot his at Gunstock in Waco back in 2003 that made me want one so bad. Just can't justify it. |

I want an Evans 470 Double rifle....I'll never be able to go to Africa even if I could afford the rifle. I just want one.

45-70. Good for bear and bears run freely in my area. May I never have to use it against them.

I want a custom Model 98 Mauser with double set triggers, spoon bolt, express sights, and a full length mannlicher stock in 9.3X74R
rem 700 classic in 375 H&H I own one & love it it drops deer deadI like 72 grains IMR ---- under a 300 grain nosler partition. she kicks just right. but since it's a classic it has no monte carlo stock to smack your cheek.

45-70 govt marlin
30-378 weatherby I've shot 375h&h and 458win |

I have shot a 375 H&H - brutal.
I own a 50BMG (AR upper) also not so fun to shoot. I also own a 45-70 Marlin, as well as a 45-70 BPCR and a 45-90 BPCR, the BPCR's are fun to shoot so is the Marlin unless it's loaded with my Elmer Keith hunting loads (they hurt). |
I already own the two biggest sporting riles I care to own. A .45-70 Guide Gun and a .450 guide gun.
Judging from my sore shoulder, that would be .30-06. I really need to get that old hard red "pad" off that gun.
Here's the bad part; I was shooting 110 grain bullets at 2700 and 3000 fps. Recoil not even close to the loads I use for deer hunting. I love carrying the rifle in the woods, but dread shooting it off the bench. The steel butt pads on my M1A and Garand don't beat me up anwhere close to that Model 70. The good news is that I found a couple of loads for the Sierra bullets that shoot as well as the Hornady's that are rarer than an honest politician. |

I currently have a 458 double rifle and a Ruger No1 in 458. I am also engaged in negotiating for a 375 H&H Ruger No1.

155mm / 42 caliber FTMFW.........................and yes it is sporting cause I say so.
.338 Win in a bolt action sporter is as much as I'd need on this continent, and as much power as I feel like shooting in a rifle I'd carry all day. I don't have the money to go to Africa for dangerous game, and if I did have the money, I'd use it to buy more hunting land here in the US. In all reality though, a 30/06 tackles 99% of what I'd ever shoot at, so realistically I doubt I'll buy anything bigger than the 30/06 and 7mmRM that I already own.

Maybe a 45-90 or a 300 H&H would be the extent of all I would need.
