Spent $500 (In 2003 dollars) on a spoiler for my then new 2003 Honda Accord.  It looked nice on the car, but it didn't make it go any faster.

Don't get me wrong it was an awesome car, but not $50k worth of depreciation awesome

Should have bought one used, but I was stupid

The M competition exhaust with the V8 sounded awesome though

Two different side businesses.
Lost 40 K on the first before I could unload it, and lost about 20 K on the second before I could unload that one.
Fortunately, I've had more winners than losers.

Bought a rv (used thank god) for something like 20k.  It's a rotting hulk in th e driveway now.  To far gone to sell, not quite far gone enough to write it off and haul it to the junk yard.  Mechanically sound, but water damage from a leaky roof.

For reference, the most expensive gun I ever bought was 5k and it's an M60E3 so I have no regrets there.

$1100 for a Ruger sr556. Always wanted one when I first got into AR's Saw they were discontinued so I bought one. Thing is heavy as a mofo. Had it a year and a half never shot it once.

My divorce dragged out, and I really didn't bother to keep track of how much it cost me, because I knew it was worth every penny.

A $1500 randonneuring bicycle that didn't live up to the hype. Since the pool of perspective buyers is so small and I talked so much shit about it online, I've been unable to sell the frame for even a fraction of what it's worth. Was able to use the groupset on a much better frameset so it wasn't a total loss but still grinds my gears pretty good to think about.

Every dime I ever spent on my ex-girlfriend.

If I'd stayed single for that time frame (years) I would've had roughly $20k more in the bank by my estimates based on what I paid for both of us doing and stuff I bought her.

Otherwise most of my mistakes are around $300-600. lol

It is definately not for everyone.  I tell guys to come out a few times hunting with us before they commit to buying, and to be careful what they buy if they do buy because resale through local channels will be a bitch.

Oh this is a good one too.

When my restaurant went out of business I had $600 to hold me over for a few months (COL in college town was nothing in 2011) but my girlfriend got fired at the same time so I gave her my savings to stay afloat. Day after I called her up to make plans and she was out for drinks with her friends

She proceeded to piss away the whole $600 on bullshit while I went unable to find a job and eventually had to move into my parents house at 27 years old. I've since learned that most women are fucking terrible at personal finances and will suck up not only all available time but also all available money, if you let them.

Stock purchase = lost a lot.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xybernaut
In February 2005, Edward and Steven Newman were subpoenaed by the Securities and Exchange Commission about sales of Xybernaut stock.[3] An internal company audit described improper conduct by the brothers including charging the company for personal expenses, hiring family members without SEC notification, failing to inform the company's board about large transactions, and interfering with internal audits.[3] In April 2005, they were forced to resign.[3] Following their ouster, the Board of Directors appointed Perry L. Nolen, previously president of Xybernaut's services subsidiary, as President and CEO of Xybernaut.

In July 2005, Xybernaut filed for bankruptcy reorganization. Xybernaut did have some success selling its technology to retail and hospitality customers such as grocery chain Tesco PLC, as well as government and military, including the U.S. Army. But Tim Shea, a senior analyst at Venture Development Corporation, said that "They've been sowing the seeds pretty well, but part of the problem is that they have this line of [wearable] products that were a little on the big and bulky side and had battery problems." [7] In January 2007, Xybernaut emerged from bankruptcy protection, following a reorganization.

In October 2007, Edward and Steven Newman were indicted, along with Xybernaut's former General Counsel, Martin Weisberg, for securities fraud and money laundering in federal district court in Brooklyn, New York.[9] The indictment alleges, among other things, that the Newmans and Weisberg caused Xybernaut to issue hundreds of millions of Xybernaut shares at below market prices to two Israeli business men who, in turn, paid them millions of dollars in secret cash kickbacks. The Israeli business men, Zev Saltsman and Menachem Eiten, were also indicted and were awaiting extradition to the United States. Also included in the indictment is Andrew Broawn, the former President and CEO of Ramp, Inc. Investors who were fleeced by the company and its executives continued to wait for justice to be served and the Israeli businessmen extradited and the Newman brothers sent to prison.[10]

In July 2010, Zev Saltsman reportedly entered a "guilty plea by settling parallel civil allegations" and had to forfeit $5 million by order of a judge. $4.5 million was set to be distributed to former shareholders of Xybernaut Corp. The arrangement settled his case with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States attorney's office and would not require his deportation. The additional monies would be used by the Xybernaut litigation fund to further legal action against other Xybernaut professionals who may have participated in illegal activities. [11]

On January 25, 2017, a final judgment against Edward G. Newman was imposed. He received "a permanent injunction against future violations of certain antifraud provisions of the federal securities laws and bars Newman from serving as an officer and director of a public company." [12]
