Did I misread the question? Is this a riot or bird hunt?
Who would pick a low capacity, low penetration, short range gun over any other military style rifle? And while I'm picking a gun from any of them, why pick a limited carbine? M249 for me. |

Honestly I would not feel undergunned with my Winchester 1886 in 45-70. It holds 8 rounds.

Quoted: I'm thinking of Mossberg 590. I primarily used a 22 long rifle for small game hunting and a .243 for my deer hunting and black bear hunting. View Quote Any other self-loader of good quality that uses readily available magazines holding rifle cartridges. |

What I have in the gun safe, Mini 14 or M-1 Carbine. I'd lean toward the latter since I only have 20 round mags for the Mini and a M-1 Carbine with 15 round mags is light and quick to handle....shoulders nicer than my Mini IMO

Remington 870 Police Magnum or Marine Model
But then again, there was a special order of browning auto 5 police shotguns That sold in shotgun news Had a factory 7 or 8 shot magazine |

The 835 in the middle. 3.5" buckshot fired 6' high parallel to the ground will get a lot of hits on multiple attackers quickly. These aren't hardened soldiers, these are cowards, any type of wound will have begging for help. |

Since we are talking hypothetically, if it was short range I’d want all the rounds possible, so I’d take a PCC like an MP5 or KRISS Vector. If I needed something more, for me, I’d want a shorter 7.62, so AK, SOCOM 16, Para FAL.
If money was no object FA M249para with oodles of linked 5.56. Shotgun is good for bump in the night but the limited capacity for riots isn’t the best choice IMO. |

A USAS-12 would be nice (full drum fed auto 12 gauge). I got to fire one and was surprised at how low it's recoil was in full auto. It was actually quite controllable.

SCAR 16, AK in ALPHA clone config, then Krink. In that order.

Yugo M92 made into a Krink pistol with a folding brace.
Has a RDS mounted on the drilled and tapped top cover. 124grs or hate and fireballs the size of basketballs. |

Of what I have handy? M1 Carbine with bayonet or the 9mm AR. I think I'd want more rounds than the 870 holds.

Fougasse on the road out front and logs rolling down the remaining 270 degrees of hills like the Swiss Family Robinson did

My PTR 91 with 50 rd X Product drum magazine.
" /> Or, my Galil ACE .308 with 25 rd Lancer magazines or X Product 50 rd magazine. " /> Or ........ etc, etc, etc ... a 5.56 caliber rifle would be my second or third choice for a riot gun. .308 will drop a large group of attackers a lot faster than any 5.56. |

I love my mp5, but in a riot type situation, Id like a rifle caliber in the same package , so I'm thinking a 93 sbr with a retractable stock. a buddy has one, and its a badass. Its on my short list.

Well that depends if we can just pick anything that we'd hypothetically want, in that case it's going to be a belt-fed of some sort. I'm thinking an MG3 because the sound alone would encourage the survivors to disperse, add in some frags and we're having a party.
If we're talking things we actually have, I do have ARs, but if they're against the ROE it depends on what sort of riot we're talking about: For a riot I get caught up in while out and about in my truck: Galil ACE pistol, because it travels with me quite a bit and I'm going to use it to unass this shit. For a riot coming up the road I live on: Remington 700 in .308, because I'll be shooting from a concealed position up the road and if your leaders start dropping maybe you'll rethink this shit. For a riot coming up my very, very long driveway: PTR-91, because do you really want to do this shit, how about you, and you? For a riot taking place on my lawn: Whatever is set up by whichever shooting position I'm at - plus things will be exploding, because you asked for this shit. Anything that happens on my road though is going to have variations of all of that being done by at least 12 people if it's a flash mob type situation and 50 or more if we have a half-hour's notice. Having good friends and good neighbors is...good. |

Marlin 1895 with the long barrel and magazine tube, loaded with my recipe for 405 grain, unjacketed lead bullets moving around 1400 fps. If that doesn't dissuade the enemy, I'll go through one en bloc of .30-06 from my bayonet equipped M-1 rifle (only so I can say "GET OFF MY LAWN!"), then on to my SIG P556xi pistol in 7.62x39.

It would have to be my 590, since that's actually a RIOT gun!

Why limit to 9 rounds with pump action Shotgun ... AR 15 or AK variant with 30 rounds mag and reloads is the way to go.
