You would need to lower fishing line with life savers on the end to see if there was water at the bottom. Possibly lower a goat into the hole see if it lives or if a telepathic seal creature emerges.

I thought some guy found a hole like that in Idaho or Washington.

What if we also built a giant tube going through the atmosphere to connect the core directly to outer space

If the hole went straight through the earth and you jumped in, you would be free falling back and forth till settling in the center.
I'm guessing it would be a solid 3 days of free fall. |

View Quote Incorrect - unless the tunnel was drilled precisely down the earth's spin axis, rotational forces would smack you against the hypothetical tunnel walls, slowing you down very quickly, overall. I doubt you'd make one full pass. |

Quoted: Look up the "Kola Well". The Russians drilled 23000 feet on the Kola Peninsula. View Quote Deeper Drilling began on 24 May 1970 using the Uralmash-4E, and later the Uralmash-15000 series drilling rig, and it became the deepest manmade hole in history in 1979. The 23-centimeter (9 in) diameter boreholes were drilled by branching from a central hole.[1] The deepest reached 12,262 meters (40,230 ft) in 1989, the deepest artificial point on Earth. Because of higher-than-expected temperatures at this depth and location, 180 °C (356 °F) instead of the expected 100 °C (212 °F), drilling deeper was deemed unfeasible. The unexpected decrease in density, the greater porosity, and the unexpectedly high temperatures caused the rock to behave somewhat like a plastic, making drilling nearly impossible |

There are certain demons that are so bad that even they weren't allowed to roam the earth. That's where they are, but in spirit. The abyss. Fuck them. Don't let them out.

Quoted: Say we were able to drill a 5 ft hole to the center of the earth. What would happen? Would whats evers in the core of the earth spew out? Or would it be more like a vacuum, sucking up whatever comes within 200ft of said 5ft hole? Or maybe something else would happen? What would happen? View Quote You'd evenutally reach China and one (or all) of the following will happen: 1) Commies will spill out 2) Cheap plastic shit will fall out 3) Some nasty invasive insect will crawl out and wreak yet more havoc on the trees and other flora and fauna native to North America. I think this was attempted and was a no-go due to the extreme heat that is encountered after a certain depth.
