There are two outstanding John Wayne movies:  Red River and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

The Searchers would get an Honorable Mention.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is considered by many critics nowadays to be the best western ever made.  John Ford got it right.  John Wayne's acting in that movie was significantly above what he did in other movies.
