In response to the “whose live show disappointed you” thread

https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Whose-Live-Show-Was-So-Disappointing-Your-Interest-Was-Never-the-Same-Again-/5-2642925/

I want to know whose live show made you like or respect the artist or band more?

The answer for me is Michael Bublé

I never had much of a strong opinion of the dude one way or another, thought the stuff I heard on the radio was alright, but not amazing.

I then one day was randomly offered tickets to go see him live and figured “eh, why not”.

That dude put on a GREAT concert. His touring band was talented and sounded great, Bublè is very good singer, and hearing the performance live you know it’s all him. There is no studio magic. He also is great with crowd  work and keeping folks engaged.  Not to mention lots of attractive ladies at the show.

I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed the show and after that actually dug into his musical catalog a bit and enjoy his music more.

Ended up actually buying tickets to see him a couple years later.

Took a girlfriend to a John Mayer concert 15 years ago. Was surprisingly entertained. Dude’s a badass on the guitar.

Maroon 5 way before they were famous. Those guys swapped instruments and did some covers during  their show that were unreal. I couldn't believe how seamlessly they picked up each other's instruments and jammed. Super talented.

Kid Rock did the same. That dude is a hell of a musician, too.

Wife and I saw reckless kelly at a street festival a few years ago with a crowd of maybe 50 people, but you would have thought they were playing for 10k. I've always enjoyed their music and live shows, and it would have been very easy for them to mail it in for this one, but they didn't and put on a phenomenal show

Reba McEntire...   As punishment for making her go see Kiss on the reunion tour my wife insisted we go see Reba.
I would never admit it to the wife, but Reba put on a really good show.

I saw Squeeze on their Argybargy tour back in the 80's.

They were good live, entertaining show.

I’m actually not surprised by this answer although I’ve never seen him in concert. I was listening to streaming music one day on a random shuffle, and it played the song “good love is on the way” off of the live album “where the light is”.  I was surprised to see it was a John Mayer song, ended up pulling up that album and it’s pretty dang good.

Also, we saw cory morrow a couple weeks ago and he put on a great show. But I was really impressed with how he closed the show. He said he was going to his merch table to sign autographs and if anyone didn't know or wanted to know more about Jesus he would love to talk them, was cool to see him using his platform that way

I bought the wife and her cousin Justin Timberlake tickets a few years ago. Her cousin didn't go, so I ended up going. That guy is talented as hell and a great entertainer.
Luke Bryan. He's NOT country by any means but he is a good entertainer.
Also another vote for Kid Rock, he puts on a hell of a live show.

Elton John. Got invited to go to his concert last minute and figured “why not”. That guy walked out, sat down at the piano and played nonstop for the entire show. The production was incredible, something wild for every song, I also was blown away by how many hits he had.

I went to Alice Cooper in 1987 with zero expectations other than to see what all the fuss was about in the 1970s. Tickets were cheap and I figured why not?

He was awesome and I had a blast.

Billy Squier in 1984 was really good too but I then was expecting a good show.  Seeing Accept in 1985 turned me into a fan.

Van Hagar.
Their first album, I was like, not bad, not great.
But then seeing them in concert and Sammy covering earlier Van Halen, I was impressed.

ETA:

Pink, yes Pink.
Wife likes Pink and bought tickets.
I was realizing impressed with the show and how physically fit for a performer she is.  Spinning from ropes and stuff while performing, pretty impressive.
Oh, buying a beer during the show, yeah MILF fest.  And some of those ladies are awfully man hungry.

Alabama. They actually sound better in person than recorded. Very entertaining and just a really good time.
Randy Travis was just such a moving experience. I don’t know how or what he did differently but he pulls out all of your emotions with his music and stories about how he wrote them.

Elton John is an insufferable old British poof but the guy is incredibly talented.  Better than Lennon or McCartney for sure.

Zach Bryan was great live. Seen lots of live shows that improved my view of artists I already liked, but Zach Bryan seems to genuinely love his music. When he’s live, he just seems to really be enjoying the audience loving it with him.

Rod Stewart.

Guy was 74 years old when I saw him. Totally rocked, working his ass off and has a million hits I had forgotten about.

He seemed to be having a great time as well.

Totally worth going to the show.

I really like seeing WASP in 1987.  But then that's probably because their warmup band, Slayer, sucked so much it made them look good.

Ancient history, but was in St. Louis for a Blues Festival in 1995 with a buddy. He had backstage/door passes for everything courtesy of the label. He wanted to go check out an artist I had little interest in that was unrelated to the festival. Ended up very impressed by Alanis Morissette. It was towards the end of their US swing for Jagged Little Pill so the band was really tight. Short tour but the album had blown up during it. The venue was interesting. Single level like a dance club, low riser stage but mad energy (Mississippi Nights) in the Landing area of St. Louis. They toured really hard the following year and she was everywhere on radio.

Tiger Army. I had never heard them before. But they opened up for Social Distortion once and holy shit they were amazing live.

Funny thing is I just happened to be staying at the same hotel as them and rode the elevator with them 2-3 different times. I had no idea it was them until they came on stage.

Vince Gill a longgggg time ago.    Dude came out and after 15 minutes of him talking and playing, you felt like you knew the guy and you were friends with him.    Really nice guy and played about ALL the instruments.    Impressive man.

Iron Maiden

Back in the 80's I saw them in Phoenix AZ. They had just played in Long  Beach CA. On the way to Phoenix the truck carrying their stage props had an accident.  All they had was their instruments. It was an awesome show.

It was one of the worst shows and best shows at the same time.

We saw The Mentors at some dive bar in San Francisco in the late 90s right before Duce's death.

We were a bunch of skateboard looking punks in some sketchy bar full of drunks. We were completely out of place.

The locals warned us to not get out of hand. ???

Anyway, the band set up and started to play. Duce was so drunk that he could barely keep time and wasn't able to sing.

So, my friends and I sang for him and the band.

The bar locals and the band thought we were insane. Not only that we knew every song, but we kept the show going.

After the show, one of my friends was bullshitting with El Duce. They were both wasted and sounded like two hobos talking to each other. They were like best friends.

Middle class skateboard punks hanging out with filthy scum. That was a fun night!

The music sucked but it was worth it.

RIP, Duce!

Eta: We knew all of the lyrics. They were shocked and grossed, and impressed.

John Mayer.  In his set, he played all his hits first- I was bored and the teenage girls/moms were entertained.  Then he played a bunch of really good blues stuff- the ladies were bored and I was entertained.

Slayer shirts are a bit of an IQ indicator.

There's a strong contingency of nerds in the metal community, and I think there always has been.  The high school quarterback is never wearing a metal shirt.  Any of the kids that were into metal for any amount of substance didn't like Slayer.

I've seen Slayer  they're terrible.  Their albums are almost as bad.  Their fans are troglodytes.

There is a member here that had him as a bicycle customer.

Everyone that has met Robin Williams thought he was a good dude. He could read people.

ELO on the Out of the Blue tour.

Superb music, great sound, laser light show and the era (late 1970's) all combined to make that concert magical.

Perfection.

The Babys when they were warm up for Journey - Journey was recording their LIVE Album.

They owned the audience that night - they were simply great.

High energy, great music.

If they kept playing all night, no one would have left the Coliseum.

They upstaged Journey = Journey seemed tired.

Fishbone - Was always a fan and I saw them in 1992 (right at their peak before they started having internal problems and members started leaving regularly).  That was a great show they were on fire all were keyed up and looked like they loving where the were.  The pit was crazy, Angelo was climbing all over the balconies around the room like a spider.  It was a great show.

I have seen them many times since and still a great show but just hasn't been the same.  I watched the documentary on them recently (came out around 2010) and they pretty much self-destructed the year after that show.  They are still together but the two original members practically hate each other.  The documentary made me see Norwood as a very cool guy who I didn't know much about before, and I am 100% with him on hating Angelo's theremin.

--
Gin Blossoms - Not really my thing, just some 90s band, but I caught them as an opening act and they put on a great show.
