I remember when Maryland state troopers went from the brown to the two tone that added a camo green. Everyone used to say it was better to hide in the woods and pop you.

Anyway they have a sort of blackish/grey police car with blackish/grey writing. You can barely tell it says police. It looks really sharp but I assume a car like that is intended for writing tickets.

Revenues.

Black and Whites stick out like a sore thumb.

People stay in tard mode longer when the blue challenger is just cruising along unassumingly.

We have a half dozen sneaky low pro ticket writing cars and a bunch of black/white,SUV's for doing police work.

Some agencies never had black and white cars. It's not the universal thing that some folks think.

A few years ago the fed Gov supposedly would give a shit ton of grant money to buy new vehicles and equipment if they were painted black and white
Something about being easily recognizable that it was law enforcement.  We didnt do it and were just stuck with shit equipment and rides lol.

Since we are on the subject the North Dakota Troopers recently started running black cruisers. They had been white forever. Of course all the expert traffic safety citizens here made a fuss about them being less visible at night. Guess they can’t see the invisible blinding led lights.

The vast majority around here are, PD and CHP. Always have been. There are a few "stealth" cars white with white lettering, but most all patrol cars are black and white.

So my agency doesn’t have any cool cars like that. I’ll occasionally use detective cars for surveillance or special assignments, but we use marked cars 98% of the time. I’m nearly positive the stealthiness of a squad has no bearing on citations written. The average motorist is terrible at driving

My understanding is that in the 1990's as the 'Community Policing' push happened, they began doing away with the black and white schemes and going to the colorful stickers for the 'community friendly' look.

My department switched back to black and white maybe around the '07 time frame.  We were the second department in my county to do so and the rest weren't far behind.

I rode around in a marked car once. The officer basically said that he could write his month's tickets in a day if he wanted to. He parked in a u turn the snow plows had cleared. He did kind of try to put the patrol car so it was partially obscured by a snow bank, but it was still clearly visible as a dark color car with the old tall light bar.

Most people did slow down as they came over the horizon line, but many appeared to either not see the car or only see it when they were nearly on it

Ya I mean it isn’t even slightly difficult to cut tickets. My assigned patrol beat on third shift? I’m genuinely impressed when I pull someone over and they have a valid license and insurance. Like you can commit nearly all traffic violations and if I pull you over and are polite with a valid DL and insurance, then fuck it. You get a warning, you get a warning, everyone gets a warning! I am the Oprah of verbal warnings.

Because it used to be that people painted them black and white so to be easily identified to allow the civilians to find them when they needed help. You know. To serve and protect.

Now they just want to ticket you and abuse their power. Easier to do that when they can sneak up on you in a black squad with low profile lights.
