What's going on there?
All the whiteys who have abandoned Christianity don't refer to themselves as Christians. And aren't there a bunch of ethnicities under the Jewish banner? What gives? |
|
NP catholic here
It's the huge amount of guilt they dump on you from the moment you're old enough to speak. |
|
Same reason most Christians call themselves that but really aren't. It's an identity more than an actual religion for most
|
|
To get minority privilege, otherwise they would just be white liberals with curly hair

Race is a social construct with no basis in science.
It is by its nature a racist concept. |

Quoted: So you can be a Jewish Catholic? Because I've known many "Jewish" folks who were like English, Scottish and German for example View Quote The pastor at the ND church I used to go to was a Christian Jew. It's a thing. https://jewsforjesus.org/ |

They know that the rest of the world would classify them as such and it has throughout history.
They've experienced a lot of discrimination and as such they recognize the value in collective representation and lobbying as a minority group. |
|
With the recent "persecution" they can now identify as "victims".
|
|
It's probably like how if someone is 1/2 or 1/4 black, they always consider themselves black.
Native Americans do it as well. It's lucrative to be in the minority now. |

Quoted: Jew is a race. DNA proven. View Quote There are several distinct genetic lineages among Jews worldwide. To address the OP's question based on my considerable experience with people who retain a Jewish identity, there's a lot more to Jewish culture than their religious traditions. I know whole families who haven't set foot in a Jewish house of worship in most of their lives, yet they still hold Jewish weddings and even Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs, and faithfully observe the secular traditions of holidays like Passover and Hannukah. Sometimes a member of a younger generation will rebel against his or her parents embrace parts of the culture and even the religion that have been dormant for generations. I had a coworker whose parents were very non-religious Jews, who decided to go full-on Orthodox as a young adult. When the company we were working for looked like it was about to downsize, he quit, sold everything he owned, and moved to Israel. He came back to visit his former coworkers and went out to lunch at a (really good) Chinese place one time during Passover. While the rest of us gorged ourselves on hot & sour soup, egg rolls, and Dim Sum he sat with us eating matzos with strawberry jam that he had brought. I really liked the guy but he could be a bit strange at times. |

Was Christ Jewish, Christian or Catholic?
Ah-HA! (Jewish inflection present in my interjection) |
|
The word Jew refers to a ethnic group of people. If you read the New Testament you’ll see that it’s always a reference to a group of people and not a religion. A good example is how Paul uses the phrase “ the Jew’s religion”. They aren’t Jews because they practice Judaism, Judaism is called Judaism because the majority of people that practiced it were Jews.
Technically they are Hebrews. |

Wife is adopted and recently did dna test and had professional search for biological family done.
Was surprised it showed “jewish” in the dna results, and sure as shit, her dad is jewish. |
|
It is a cultural connection to their family and ancestors. Sephardic, Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, etc
Most Irish are Catholic, but it's the "Irish" that ties them to a place and a culture. Same with Italian. Go to Africa or to parts of the Middle East (or to an Indian Res), and people will identify by Tribe. Some Tribes host different religious sects. Some of you guys need to get out more and see the world. |

Because being able to claim victim status when current events favor it, is a huge benefit.

They are probably tired of answering stupid fucking questions.

It is the only they still get the financial news letter the synagogue publishes weekly, so I have been told.

Judaism is more about being an insular group where members take care of their own kind more than it is about God. Why would anyone want to give that up?

Once all of the Apostles decided that Jesus Christ was the Savior, and they began worshipping Him as Christians...
...they were still all Jews. There WERE Romans who converted to Judaism, but most of them were women. Few Roman men converted because the rite of male circumcision was a too much of a bummer. |

There are way more non practicing Christians calling themselves that than there are Jews doing the same.

The ethnicity came first and they made their own religion.
Some maintain the ethnicity and ignore the religion. Doesn't seem that hard to follow. |

Quoted: What's going on there? All the whiteys who have abandoned Christianity don't refer to themselves as Christians. And aren't there a bunch of ethnicities under the Jewish banner? What gives? View Quote The Angles are a tribe. The Inuit are a tribe. The Jews are a tribe. They are not a religion or a culture, they are a genetic grouping. Just like Obama is a muslim and a black, islam is a “religion”, but his race is what he identifies as, even though he could also claim to be white. Get it? A Jew can be Christian, muslim. Jewish, an atheist, etc, but a Jew they are. Nigerian Jews are Jews, Ashkenazi are Jews, and Sephardim are Jews, because “mama’s babies, papas maybes”. |

If you are going to be loaded on the train car with the rest of them you might as well identify as one.

Re: catholic jews
Being jewish is partly a culture. It seems like a jew can be atheist/skeptical and still be part of the culture. Positively adopting a different religion seems to be regarded as rejecting or leaving the culture. |
|
The real reason is to benefit from the ethnic nepotism jews as a group generally practice. |

They do it to upset the OP. They have annual meetings about it.
