I would probably choose The Departed for the same reason. That was one of the very few movies that completely caught me by surprise with a plot twist. Normally I'm good at figuring out plots ahead of time (and often have to explain what's going on to everyone else... ), but the elevator scene with Leonardo Decaprio was one of the most surprising moments in movie history for me. Right when I think I know what's going on... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Fight Club. The twist blew my mind the first time around, I still catch little things on rewatches but the first time was something else. Dumb and dumber....HY-larious View Quote My all time favorite first view is Band of Brothers (HBO series). I watch it yearly and still love it, but I would love to be able to watch it for the first time over and over. |

Turbo Kid. Such low expectations that I wasn't prepared for the best bad movie ever made.

The Departed, great movie, I could watch any number of times especially just to see Vera Farmiga. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Dances with Wolves, the uncut version. Was a great movie. I also enjoyed Tombstone. In the day, The Ten Commandments was a great flick.

My memory is so bad that I sort of already have this superpower.

Saving Private Ryan.
That opening 20 minutes or so left me speechless.. like wtf did I just watch trying to process it.. and the size of the brass balls on every man on that beach that day. Even though it's fictionalized, it rocked me and made me want to join the army immediately. |

While there are better movies out there and I wholeheartedly agree with many of the previous responses, the movie that really ruined me as far as going to a theater was Avatar in IMAX 3D. I haven't seen a movie not in IMAX since then. Up till that point, IMAX was a novelty for me.
So, I'd have to say Avatar in IMAX 3D. The story was decent, albeit a bit on the SJW side, but the visuals were absolutely amazing for the time. Haven't seen it in a while but I hope it's held up. |

Definitely a Hitchcock film.
Probably either To Catch a Thief or North by Northwest. |

Why? It is useless information. It is not how my brain works. I seem to store visual and audio clips. A while ago I was asked about a part number at work. I remembered writing it down on a note, brought up the image in my mind and read the numbers off of the image. My daughter has told me she does the same thing. How can you not do that? Predator. Not knowing what he looks like and that mask coming off for the first time...

Avatar in 3d, at the theater, was the coolest thing ever. Sure, the plot sucks and the acting is meh but the visuals were incredible. I felt like a little kid.

Oblivion.
One of my favorite movies, and never saw a single commercial for it, nore even knew it existed. I bought the blue ray by accident thinking it was a completely different film. |

This is an interesting question. I'm going with The Ring. It's far from my favorite movie, but you can never get the same kind of "scare" from a movie you rewatch. My formative years movies came from a time/place that are critical to the impact of the film. Example: star wars. NOTHING like it was out there in the 70s, it was awesome. Watching it for the first time in 2019, when even commercials have awesome SFX etc. would be a different thing. Example 2: Red Dawn. If it's not the cold war and you're not afraid of Russian commandos launching a sneak attack on the CONUS, it's just not the same. The USSR was scary as shit. The movie just didn't have the impact when it's about a much less menacing collapsed empire where we know a lot more about how crappy everything was actually running behind the iron curtain.
