I will probably go with an older vette...for that reason and it will cost

If that car did come with a six manual, I'd likely ride around with half a chubby.

GM had cooling issues with the C7s, I can't imagine that it is easier to cool the same engine stuffed in the middle of the car. How many radiators are there?

I like it and think they will sell well. For its capabilities it's a lot of car for 60K new.

Some are going to poo poo about it being mid engined but GM had to do it that way to improve the performance over what the C7 can do.

I find it comical how a clown who's never even seen a C8 in person is gonna lecture us all as to how much shit he can carry in it.  Anything more than a couple pistols and a range bag is too much for it to carry?  Yeah, no.  If you don't like the looks of it that's cool, but don't make up lies to try and justify your opinion.

So you're telling us that GM gave you a pre-production C8 to physically test all three of your cute little scenarios?  Yeah, that's what I thought.  So it's all just assumptions on your part.

The front is decidedly Corvette, the rear definitely had Corvette qeues but being mid engine is difficult to maintain a "style"

Doing some more reading I'm astounded that GM can sell this car for $60k. I bet they could have kept the Vette and sold this car as the Zora for $100k easily. It will be interesting to see if GM holds this price point or if they gradually start increasing it over the years.

Seriously, I want you to spend the next week looking at everyone who drives a vet that you see.

I was going t get a vet a few years back and I rented one to drive around to see if I really wanted one.  My wife gets in with me for a drive and the first thing she says is "ya know this is for old men to ride around in".  I said the same thing you did.  Then she said...."no seriously drive around for the next week and tell me who drives these".

So we went out to a local market and when we were checking out the really old lady running the register say "is that a corvette....nice car".  Then we drove to around add went to a restaurant.  I parked out a ways and a mini van full seniors parks next to me.  The men get out and one says "I don't know what's going to be better, this meal or that car".  They spend 15 minutes talking to me about the vette.

So my wife is busting laughing the entire time we are eating.

I spent the rest of the week really paying attention to who drove vetted.  Expect for the track'ish' Z06s vettes to a man they were all grey haired old men with guts.  Now I'm one of those guys and I'm thinking.....that's a nice car.

Let's be real the C7 base model doesn't look that great.
The Z06 and the fake z06 (grand sport) stepped up the looks of the C7 big time.

I dont think the base C8 looks bad and I've learned over the years that you have to see a car in person to truly appreciate (or not) its looks so I'll wait until I see one in the wild before I pass judgement.

My town has a good number of college aged kids driving vettes.

And they likely drive them pretty hard given we have both a street racing scene, a 1/4 mile track, and two road courses in the county with Bittonwillow and Willow Springs.

Seems some of them figured out why buy a new Camaro/Mustang at 36-45k when you can get a C5 and mod the hell out of it or a creme puff C6.

Boomers hate the re-design, but in the end it's a smart bet by Chevy to do it this way.

Boomers are gonna die off soon, and younger people with money will be attracted to this car because of the looks and performance. It's just demographics.

The future is now old men.

Plus a sub 3 second 0-60 for under 60k is a hell of a bargain.

I’m on the fence- I’ll agree it’s a sweet car for the 60k tag. A couple notes being missed here

1) $60k is going to be your base base model. He notes the 0-60 under 3 is the z model which if I had to guess will be 100+. Also HP numbers quoted are also dependent on exhaust

2) real world reviews will be interesting

3) my opinion is it’s a little over done to the point of looking toy ish

That said they will sell a shit ton. I would like to drive one and at the 60k point this will replace the mustang for hitting light poles

Hating on the Boomers is all the rage with disillusioned people. But if we move away from Millennial bitterness, there is a counter-argument to be made here.  And distilled from cooler heads on the Corvette Forum, is a prediction on how this C8 is going to go down.

-> Initial interest in the new design and outwardly impressive sales numbers in the beginning. Ballyhoo in the various automotive rags and YouTube channels, but discontent inside GM as the overall 1st year misses optimistic projections.
-> Subsequent 2nd and 3rd year numbers will be made to look OK in the auto trade press, but internal documents will reveal serious GM disappointment as over-all sales numbers never make the same numbers as the C6 & C7.
-> Late 3rd or 4th year design refresh does nothing to bolster sliding sales.
-> Corvette model is killed when GM merges with another car manufacturer. Subsequent reflection in trade press will have GM Execs pointing fingers at design & engineering, but history will write that the mid-engine Corvette, while a technical achievement, took the car too far from it's iconic style, and made it a niche car for the upper income driver.

ETA:  If you don't believe me, take a look at GM history, and see how GM has consistently fiddle-fucked with iconic car designs until they destroy the car. For just one example, I give you the car that that helped to kill Pontiac: The 4th Gen GTO.

car is a potential winner. some will whine about the DCT, some will whine about the rear end, some will whine about the buttons.

i may buy one, i may not. here's whats gonna make it or break it for me.. gremlins as in electrical gremlins. case in point. i am also interested in the new wrangler. but if you go to the forums there are a lot of complaints about problems with the computers and sensors. car shuts off while driving, car warns you its gonna shutoff soon, electric power steering stops working, ESS stops working, radio stops working, alternator stops working. there is more than one person who has had the dealer literally replace the dashboard, the wiring harness and a lot of sensors and still not resolve electrical issues.

new cars have very complicated canbus systems. in such systems, a wiring ground, loose wire, bad sensor anywhere in the car can cause serious problems.

this corvette will be have the most complicated electronics of any vette ever made, and probably, when its first produced, the most complicated electrical system in any chevvy.

and its a completely new car and its mass produced. so... that is what i will be paying attention to when its first available. and i hope chevvy does a better job of building this car than FCA did with the new wrangler.

time will tell.

I took a lot of time to create 3 scenarios,  just because I knew the tendency of posters to brush off any single argument.  To make your arguments, you have to specifically tailor your load to the C8, and ignore the beach trip, and contort the argument to another car entirely. Weak Sauce.

I show 3 realistic trips, and could show more, like the very real company trip I took in my C7 to an office in Minnesota.  I had 4 Ethernet switches, several firewalls & APs, all in original boxes, along with a grip of network tools & a generous travel bag, all in the C7 trunk. After the job, I took a couple of days off to visit a friend in North Dakota, then blasted back down through ND & SD at (CoC) unmentionable speeds.  That's life with the C7.  The C8 would have to stay home, and I'd have to take a rental car to get the equipment on site.

You can like the C8 for it's looks or HP, but otherwise, it's another damn European-styled day-tripper.  Sad!

I don't think most people buy vettes to use as work vehicles or travel cars based on the people I know that own them and the low mileage examples on the used market. A good friend of mine has four vettes (2 C7s) and I'm certain there will be one of the C8s in his garage.

The cooler heads on CF that hate every new generation when it debuts yet five years later they all have one?  And sure it was the GTO that killed Pontiac and not the shitty Grand Ams, Azteks, etc plus overall world market failure. You're full of shit.

You don't know squat about the Corvette, the Corvette Forum, or the people on it.  And you should re-read your last sentence and be ashamed.

That color looks a lot better there, than on the “build your own” virtual site.

I find it pathetic that some clown who's never owned a Corvette is gonna lecture a real Corvette owner on how we all should drink GM's Kool-aid.  How many years do you have on the Corvette Forum? Zero? Yeah, that's what I thought, just a short-tempered AL pickup truck driver making assumptions based on his zero knowledge of all things Corvette.

Thanks for your detail laden initial cargo post, but this Cialis fueled holier than thou follow-up is a little much ya think?  But muh vette forum time!

Re: your initial post, I find the flat hatch area of the C6-C7 unsafe for storage.  Since I'm used to driving sports cars...sportily, instinctive use of the no-go pedal causes everything on the hatch deck to fly forward into the driver's area.  Had a 5 gal Sunaco canister of MS109 hit the radio in a C6 Z06 once on the way to the track - probably much worse of a situation than one of your 5 empty paper bags.  While I haven't driven a C8 yet (awaiting the twin turbo LT7 ZO6), the deep rear storage well looks very welcome to hold quite a lot of stuff in-place along with the enclosed frunk.  I personally prefer an area behind the front seats for storage like a 911 as it safely secures items in place and is easily accessible.  Admittedly excessive storage in sports cars isn't a primary concern of mine.

In a similar note:  just dropped off 13 frozen turkeys to a church pantry in the Supra.  The rear seat/floor area would have normally been used, but two girls wanted to ride-along so they sat there.  The hatch area is similar to the C7, but I never use it due to reasons above.  Not your every day cargo situation, but frozen turkeys would easily transport in the C8's rear cargo well, but would be dangerous in the C7 with passenger (just singular).

I like it. Good price point for that level of car. BTW I used to have a 73' Stingray convertible which I loved. Then after I sold it in the early 90's Vettes from 83' -up sort of went blah IMO. But this one sparks my interest again. I'd take this for 60K over 60K worth of Challenger or Mustang any day.

Like being on a forum means anything. That's one of the weirdest flexes I've ever seen.

It's like some kid bragging about being "on the chans".

That's just what guys who can't drive a manual say. AuToMaTiC's ArE fAsTeR aNd WiN rAcEs. People buy manuals cause they're more fun to drive.

If I was buying a car and the only purpose was taking it to the drag strip then I might consider a automatic.

Most people don't ever take their car to a dragstrip. They might do a ricer fly by and call it a race or maybe a roll race, but even then your automatic barely has an advantage over a manual, but whatever.

Of the top 15 lap times on the Nurburgring, 4 of the cars have manual transmissions.
