I had a 77 Grand Prix SJ like this for my first car. Mine had a red interior.
Had a lot of fun with that old car. The 400 big block sounded mean even if it had shit horsepower. Attached File |

My family had a stripped down 1977 E350 with a 460 as one of our long distance courier vans.
It would walk that lil red wagon and a smokey and the bandit trams am right up to around 80 mph |

No one wants to admit they had an Oldsmobile diesel POS?
We had one, yanked the motor and tossed in a 68 or 69 350 rocket. For a ''luxury'' car [delta 98] it would roast the tires, especially with the diesel rear end gearing. |

I lived in the late 70’s. The cars need to die in a fire. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/68624/13379725-237E-4DAB-AB44-0CA4AD5326C0-639792.JPG View Quote Still the Chevelles and Malibus would run if you slightly modified them with a 454. Had a kid that had an early 70's Z28 that could lift the front tires if he tried hard. Hot rodded 302. Still like the sorry ass CJs. But they were fun. |

Drove one of these in high school for a while. A couple of kids teased me ....till they raced me. https://www.svtperformance.com/forums/attachments/lilredburnout-jpg.856172/ I also had a 79 Malibu with a 350 4bl. It wasn't "fast", but was pretty damn fun to drive. View Quote |

Starting in 1973 and lasting for about 8 - 10 years, American cars sucked. My 2016 Nissan Frontier would be a gas mileage god back then when compared to American automobiles. Imagine a car with a 350 cubic inch engine with a top speed of 92 miles per hour.

LOL cars that kept running (or trying to) after you turn the ignition off.
Some are good hot rod prospects now though. |

Why is there such a damn romanticism about shit cars of the 70’s and 80’s. All the big 3 were shit, all of them. Get behind the wheel of a Fairlane, Monte Carlo, K-Car, whatever and it drove like shit. The 80’s is where Japanese car took over and never looked back; look at a Camry or Accord in the mid 80’s vs the Taurus, Malibu or Lancer. No fucking comparison. Little lone sports cars.
For the record, my first car was a ‘73 Mercury Comet which was dreadful. The ONLY saving grace of that car was it’s (thirsty) 302 v8 and even so, a 4 banger from one of the Japanese, little lone BMW/Porsche and the like (granted flat 6’s,) would spank it. Just fucking no.... |

Ok, I’ll readily admit I’m way to young for this thread... but this whole ‘79 Malibu thing has my attention. And here I thought 70’s cars were horrible. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
And there's like some unwritten rule somewhere that all modded Malibus have to be insanely fast. People seem to build them that way more than the others. |
