Wait,... so they don't have money to run the parks so they send park police to block them off??? Why don't they not block it off and save actual money? I mean WTF? It's not like you need electric to turn on the trees. and 2, they have to station people in front of entrances, so people like the "don't you love freedom" "it's the public's property" people (like some on this board who talk about doing) don't cut the locks and go in anyway |

One guy blocking the road is less than 4 guys patrolling. When that happened with the feds under Clinton, everyone was off but LE. There to provide basic services to residents that were within the park area and block out everyone else from coming in. So they can pay the St Police to sit at the entrance and block a park vs just letting it be open with no official services? Fucking government. I have zero problems with this. If the state government can't get their shite together, this is the consequence.

This happened at some of the civil war battlefields too- I'm sure you guys remember when this happened at the fed level a few years back. Well, my old man was touring some of those battlefields at the time. I got a picture in my email from my dad- it's my almost 70 year old father climbing over a fence holding his hook up and the caption is "guess which finger I'm holding up" (he doesn't have hands, he has a Captain Hook like prosthetic) View Quote |

We've been going to the Jersey shore for years for our beach vacation. . . At 5pm the lifeguards leave. The blow their whistles, and everyone must get out of the water. . . .
Then they leave. . . then you can go back into the water. . . Guess it's some kind of liabilty issue---"no one was in the water when the lifeguards left the beach"---but it seems kind of . . . . .silly. . . |

Remember the last gov't shutdown some guy showed up and started mowing the lawns near the White House.

It should be law that when a government shutdown happens the first thing to go is security details to push these assholes to do everything to keep it from happening. Let them roam their state like a regular citizen for a while and the problem will fix itself.

Instead of turning off the A/C in the governor's mansion, which would actually save money, they close a parking lot which costs nothing sitting there, and would have probably brought in revenue if open. Yes folks, government at work.

Not too surprising. We've devolved into a nation of children, so of course a nanny state will be voted into power.
Last trip to Australia, little over a year ago - beach after beach after beautiful, empty beach with nary a soul. Not even a park ranger or government employed denizen. Hard to compare with so-called "civilization"; seems like a dream. |
