Sounds there was no satelille on board?

ETA:Had to reread the site.

The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., Saturday morning to deliver Facebook's first satellite. The satellite was part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's plan to bring internet service to areas of areas of sub-Saharan Africa, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

no, SES will be the first reuse customer, this rocket that blew up was going to have a facebook satellite on it.

http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/08/spacex-finds-a-customer-for-its-first-reused-rocket-satellite-operator-ses/

SpaceX has been running out of room in its facilities in Florida as it lands rockets by sea and ground, so it would like to begin reusing some of these first-stage Falcon boosters as soon as possible. The first step was finding a customer, and now SpaceX has done that. The Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES said Tuesday that it intends to launch a geostationary satellite, SES-10, on a reusable rocket in the fourth quarter of this year.

If that's the case then the satellite would have been onboard buttoned down.
No way would there be an engine test 3 days before a scheduled launch just to break everything down and roll it back into the hanger to load the payload and get it back out to the pad.

Without getting into why I know its a reuse, lets just go ahead and agree with me for the time being. Information coming in right now is that its a reuse.

Major suck age for space x though, another 6 months of investigations, this is bound to delay SES 10.

SpaceX has had a good run for a while.  Rockets are extremely complicated machines, more than most people realize.  Hopefully no one was hurt and SpaceX can use this to learn how to make their machines better.

Remember when they made that video with inspirational music and everyone's reaction when they had that successful launch and landing? Well they should make a video with appropriate music and people's reactions to this launch. That would be fun.

Check the SpaceX twitter account which confirms what I said.  Is SpaceX lying?

Twitter account

SpaceX  "First launch of flight-proven first stage will use CRS-8 booster that delivered Dragon to @Space_Station in April"

Musk  "Thanks for the longstanding faith in SpaceX. We very much look forward to doing this milestone flight with you."

SES  "SES-10 will #launch on @SpaceX flight-proven Falcon-9 rocket http://ow.ly/rKO7303Ivkj  #BeamsOnLATAM"

4. Explosion appears fairly localized
5. No reported casualties
