Which in all honesty I pulled out of thin air with no real reference. Finished 44th out of 100 10k runners and 5th overall in my age class which I might be most proud of. Attached File |

8.05 / 806.25 I haven't posted in a while, but the streak is still going. This was likely my slowest ever "not after a marathon" recovery run. Not sure if I'm proud of that or that it's just a sign that I'm really tired after my workout yesterday (my first workout in weeks that went well). |

Haven't run in years. I need to get back into shape and stay in shape this time. I bought some decent running shoes on Amazon, Asic's gel venture 8. Since it's been awhile, I've started slow: Monday, walk 1/4 mile, jog for 1 minute, walk 2 minutes. Jog 1.5 minutes. Walk 2 minutes. Jog 1.5 minutes. Walk 2 minutes. Jog 1 minute. Walk remainder of 1.5 mile track. Thursday (today), I walked 1/4 mile (4:07), Jog 1:00, W 1:00, J 1:15, W 1:00, J 1:30, W 1:00, J 1:30, W 1:00, J 1:30, walk remainder of 1.5 miles, about 2:15. Overall time was 19:20 seconds. Which is terrible but I know I need to start really slow to avoid getting hurt. Might go again saturday or sunday depending on how I feel. Am I bumping jog duration up too fast? Or too slow? I'm 39. Chronic asthma. Family has history of cardiovascular disease. I'd like to get into decent cardio shape again to give my body the best chance of having a decent quality of life as I get older. |

You also don't want to burn out mentally going to hard too quick. Good for you. |

Ramp up slowly, make sure you're running easily enough that you could say a few sentences without having to catch your breath, and you'll be surprised how quickly you end up progressing. |

I never stretch. ![]() But my hydration and nutrition are really solid. Sleep is usually a bit less than I'd like (still 7+ hours, usually), but I get all I can. |

Again, just a little muscle soreness. No stabbing pains in my shins or foot arches.I got that one BAD a few years ago when I tried to do too much too fast. Pain in my arches so bad I could barely get out of bed to walk. |

Third day out today. Bumped run/walk ratio up just a hair. walk 1/4 mile, then 1:45 jog/ 1 min walk. Overall 1.5 mile time was 18:12. Walked another half mile to cool down. The "just get out there and start even if you don't feel like it" advice is good. I really didn't feel like it and the weather is kinda yucko. But once I got out there and started, I felt better. |
