I'm in San Diego on a trip, and may need to venture to Old Town Tequila to see if they have anything I need. For the most part I am pretty well stocked up on stuff I like, but they might have a bottle or two of something new to try

OTT has Terralta 110 which I don’t think I have tried.

So fill to me, the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all.

I've never tried anything from Terralta, maybe I'll give it a try if I make it to OTT. I have noticed that I'm not a huge fan of the high proof tequilas, but maybe I need to give them more of a chance.

View Quote High proof spirits take a while to get used to, but can offer a ton of flavor. One of the nice parts about them though is if you want to, just add a little distilled water to it in your glass and let it rest and open up a little bit. You can find the proof you like for your tequila |

Which I hate to say because I love pasote. Honestly the chamucus 110 has become one of my favorite high proof Blancos |

I tried Flor del Desierto Cacabel while in Savannah and LOVED it. Went to a local store found Desert Door made in Texas (blue bottle). Has anyone tried it?

View Quote The cascabel is amazing. It's a near perfect spirit. The desert door is a huge disappointment, especially compared. The guys use a pressure cooker instead of a underground horno to cook it, and their distillation process is really half assed. We should be able to make good sotol in the US, but desert door is not it. |

Thanks. I found a tasting and I hated it. The Cascabel is now my favorite.

Just picked up a bottle of Don Amato Pechuga (never heard of it, NOM 001x) and a bottle of bozal Tobala ancestral.
Did I do ok? |

Finally found a plata puntas, snagged a couple fortalezas to experiment with this weekend as well

AZ folks, I was at the Costco in Scottsdale near the 101 and FLW, and was surprised to see a bunch of El Tesoro Extra Anejo on the shelf for $99. I already have a few bottles of this stashed away, but I did take one home with me.

Maybe I just was lucky on timing when I was there. I was thinking of going back and getting another one, but based on what you say it may be all gone by now. |

In middle of nowhere NM and good spirits are hard to find. So I ended up buying a bottle of Teremana Reposado. Found out it is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's label.
Anyone have an opinion on it? I think the wife is going to whip up some Margheritas with it. |
|
|
The añejo is pure garbage.
|
|
|
Teremana isn't bad, but for a few dollars more I can get bottles that I enjoy more. For a few dollars less, I can find bottles that are equal to Teremana in my area
|
|
|
It should work for margaritas. She mentioned using our El Tesoro and I flat out said no lol.
It smells good but has a bit of the cheap stuff bite on the tongue. Most of the tequila available in the area is Patron, 1800, and Hornitos. I bought the Teremana because it was different. |

Nothing wrong with trying something new.

What's everyone drinking tonight? I've been going through and finishing off some bottles that just have a little bit left in them.
I finished off a Grand Dovejo high proof Blanco, added some water per woafp's suggestion and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm also working to polish off a Pasote repo with a couple of drinks left inside. |
|
|
A buddy gave me a bottle of Don Julio 70 for Xmas.
Popped it open tonight, I must say I’m pleasantly surprised- pretty smooth in a stiff margarita. |

I'm glad that I bought a bottle when it was still relatively available here in AZ. From what I can tell it's really hard to find now at least in AZ. |

Got a hold of a Tequila Ocho Single Estate Extra Anejo 2018. Olde Town Tequila is my mail order saving grace around here.
Currently working on a bottle of Pasote Anejo. |

Still corked. I'll pop it this weekend. |

All right, I’ll admit to doing bourbons for the last couple of weekends…so I’ll make this weekend a tequila weekend.
Now to decide which one… |

Trevor’s had a shipment of G4 but when I tried to get the transaction to go through online it wouldn’t.
Called them and they said online glitch: it was already out of stock. But, he said, they have a source now and he will order some for me (3xBlanco 108). That was last night and he already texted that he has it and is holding it for me. @AZGR @WOAFP |

They have a good stock of Fortaleza Blanco right now so I picked up a bottle. I started talking with someone working there who seems to know tequila pretty well. He let me try a Don Fulano 100 proof Blanco and a Don Fulano Anejo, both were pretty good. I bought a bottle of the anejo to have something different. The guy I was talking to told me that Pasote had been sold recently which may mean a change in the final product eventually. @woafp have you heard this about Pasote? |
|
|
I can't imagine there is any truth to that. His brother sold la altena (distillery behind ocho, tesoro, tapatio..etc) to Bacardi a few years ago, but Felipe has said a ton of times that his son is going to keep running El pandillo.
His son is actually the 4 in G4 (fourth generation) I actually really liked that high proof fulano. It was unexpectedly fruity. |

I dug around on the interwebs and it seems that Pasote is moving from nom1579 to 1584, so the distillery wasn't sold but the Pasote brand will be made elsewhere. Maybe a good time to grab some 1579 bottles

Delivered today, 4 Pasote Blancos all from Nom 1584. I have a tiny bit left of a 1579 bottle, and I guess I will try to do a comparison sometime soon. I was hoping to get some 1579 bottles, but I probably waited too long to order. Oh well

Some friends and I had a late lunch/early supper at a local taqueria. Had a few drinks, they had some nice tequilas on the wall as well.
I tried Tequila Ocho blanco and man...I'm normally a beer guy during the spring and summer, and start drinking more liquors in the fall and winter. Mainly bourbon. I stopped drinking tequila for a while, just didn't really interest me, I dunno. But man that stuff is so good. I don't have a super refined palette to describe what I'm tasting, it's just so good. Crisp and bright, the agave smells like really good grape candy to me, it's awesome. One of my friends is one of those that's had a bad experience with Jose and "hates tequila," but he liked this. I stopped by the liquor store on the way home wanting a bottle of my own, but all they had was the reposado. I picked up a bottle of El Tesoro blanco instead. I'll be breaking into that later tonight. |

FYI, I received an email from Total Wine for a pre order of El Tesoro 85th anniversary XA. Aged 36 months in Bookers bourbon barrels. It sounds pretty good, but is a bit spendy. Does anyone know about this?

I'm not great at articulating the differences, but I will say that the 1584 is a step down for me. The nose on the 1584 has a weird funky smell to me that just isn't good, although I don't pick that up in the taste. Overall it's not bad, but I'm probably done buying Pasote unless I stumble on a 1579 bottle. |
