Never left them. Where I live I am on limited data so I can't stream movies, plus I like to have DVD's for the kids in the truck and travel trailer.

I still have my collection, but I ditched all of the boxes they are way too bulky for what they do, and that was a good call. I store hundreds in a box a foot or so long and as square as a jewel case.

Amazon

I do stream some, but I don't like it. Maybe it is my setup (phone controls Amazon Prime via Chromecast through my AV receiver), but the sound seems to lag, maybe a quarter to a half second, and I am no lip reader. I notice it enough that it bothers me.

Ya, I prefer the older movies, so its cheaper to just buy DVDs. Also, they censor or format a lot of the classics so I prefer to avoid that.

I prefer a plex server with all the movies saved on my hard drive.

I still "own" it, and I can scroll through thousands of movies I own in a matter of minutes. Don't have to worry about scratched movies and I can look up the reviews, actors, and read a brief summary of the movie without ever moving my fat ass off the recliner.

Never stopped buying DVD's and Blu-rays since they never go away in the middle of me binge watching a season or crap out when my net speeds go down cause spectrum. Also they don't care when I'm using a vpn. Got hundreds of discs and will buy more whenever hollywood makes something worth watching.

still have 700 maybe dvds/blu-rays

buying less now, actually just once a year on Black Friday

Have HBO Max and have 200 or so of the blu-rays redeemed for digital copy on Vudu,  some titles they don't have the option to do Disk To Digital.

I mix and match, but as far as film goes I greatly prefer owning physical copies. In general I try to retain the data, either physically or on a drive. The only thing I stream mostly is music, because I listen to so much different stuff that it would be a monumental feat to catalog all of it on on a drive, let alone pay for it all, if in this hypothetical I don't break the law, and I never break the law.

Kinda hate Blue Rays... here are some reasons they are bull shit.

Top 10 Reasons Blu-ray Sucks - Cinemassacre

DVDs are packed with tons of bonus features, commentary, etc.

When Blu Rays came out you don't get a whole lot of extras for some reason.. I love DVDs as far as extras

Streaming is good, but isn't perfect. It sucks media can be taken down without any notice. Some people purchased seasons of TV shows from Amazon, just to have episodes pulled/censored because of SJW BS. Like an episode of the Office was pulled because of "Blue Face"

I have like 4 externals full of stuff.. Honestly it's better just to have Blu Ray quality ripped to a HDD vs having the physical media

Also heres the bullshit thing, you need the internet to validate/update a Blu-Ray player to play certain discs. WTF!?

4K Blu-ray discs for movies, digital for games. Nothing will match the fidelity of physical media for movies, games have the entirety of the disc installed on the hard drive anyway you only need to disc for DRM. I haven't bought a physical game disc in years, and I'm getting the digital only PS5

This.  I like something physical I can hold on to. I don't want to have to be locked into an Amazon account to watch movies that I "buy".  I was a BlueRay or DVD that I can keep......and it's nice to have something on a DVD to watch when you might not have a wifi signal.

I purged some of my crap titles because they were just taking up space.  I bought a good number of DVD's from Blockbuster in the early 2000's.  It was about as cheap to buy 3 or 4 than to rent for awhile there.

I buy a DVD or two a year, so I never really left.  I do primarily utilize streaming services though.

Recent years I've been buying on A Prime.  Nice not to have to fool with the disk.  Especially long movies that span multiple disks.  If they ever fuck me by shutting down something I've paid for then I might sing a different tune.

Also there aren't many movies these days that I feel are worth owning anymore.  So that helps too.

I finally gave in and got on a streaming subscription.  Now I have access to damn near ever album ever recorded for $10/mo anywhere I'm at and at anytime.

Even before I went down the streaming road I was cherry picking songs through Itunes.  Not need to buy the whole album and only like two songs off it...

Having a physical copy is always better. I have about 90-100 or so songs that I purchased through music match years ago that I can't access anymore because they are out of business and that file format has a DRM attached to them for the songs to play. Sucks.

Keep in mind, DVD's and Blu-rays don't live forever either but they do live longer than some broadcast companies.

I've got a pretty comprehensive disk library (~500-600), but with the current rash of #CancelCulture bullshit memory-holing various shows, I've been power shopping used discs to get all the stuff I love but don't have yet. And it's a fair excuse to swap out some DVDs with the BluRay or 4K versions. Just ordered Jaws last night and apparently it's one of the best 4K conversions out there.

CDs are another story, though.... lately I've found a few artists with enough songs to consider buying the whole disc, but *Ta-Da!* no physical media sold, just digital downloads/streaming.

It will, if you buy the disc version.

They are competing with xbox and their tiered approach for this generation.

They are releasing the base models at pretty low prices.

I was sort of glad initially to start purging them but between 3 streaming options 2/3rds of the movies i watch are still unavailable. I grew up on and mostly watch westerns. Most of them are still some ridiculous digital purchase price on amazon. And I can get the DVD cheaper at the store than the one time rental.
