U.S. Army uniform officials will soon begin testing a new hot weather combat uniform that's designed to dry more than 30 percent faster than the current Army Combat Uniform. In addition to testing the new hot-weather uniform, uniform officials also plan to test five new designs of a lighter jungle boot, known as the Jungle Combat Boot Version 2, in January. |

Remember before Desert Storm when the fake news was reporting our equipment was going to be decimated by the sand? Helicopter blades were literally going to fall off and all machinery was going to choke and die on sand.

"The new uniform's fabric is 57 percent Nylon and 43 percent cotton, which dries about 30 minutes faster than the ACU's 90-minute dry time under lab conditions, uniform officials maintain."
The 50/50 blend is pretty flammable, this 57/43 blend is going to be highly dangerous when fire is encountered, shit will melt to the wearer's skin. |

It looks like maternity clothes.
Nice job Army. Everyone involved needs to be relieved or fired. |

Some of the materials and features they were testing sounded pretty cool when I read about it last year.

I thought the new pattern was good for everything?
Shit, old summer BDU worked fine in jungles |
|
Just go back to OD or Khaki for everything. After a day in the field it's all a muddy drab mess anyways. It was good enough to kill Germans and Japs and Koreans and Dominicans and Vietnamese for a generation before we had to have a special camo for each and every environment we encounter.

But im sure theres ways to add fire retardants to it. Other issue would be longevity.. Dont see fabrics like that lasting unless they reinforce stress/wear areas. |

I'm sorry, flammability should be spec'd out up front. I don't give a shit how much moisture it wicks away and disperses. Last thing you want is shit like that in IED land. When I worked at homeland, at our uniforms were cotton poly blend. Fucking hated it. Always wore cotton boxers, cotton t-shirts under that stuff just in case.

If multicam, and BDU's had an ugly bastard child. That would be what it looked like!

So where are we looking at going when we get the uniforms, because you know we aren't going to spend a billion dollars on new jungle jammies and not use them somewhere?

I read an article yesterday about the Marines testing their new jungle uniforms as well. It was all hyped up that they'd be needing them in North Korea.

Sort of unrelated, but there is a good Primary&Secondary podcast on modern jungle war fighting. Boots were discussed at length, basically the us mil does not have a boot in inventory that works in hot wet environments.

Just issue everyone uniforms made out of FORTREX like the A2CUs and call it a day. Lightweight, breathable, fast drying, and most importantly, permanently fire resistant.
