Fire is up to 2500 acres. If the wind shifts, it could very well affect dam work due to air quality or road closures.
Local paper.

Noticed that the aggregate pile to the right of the RCC plant has really gone down as has the pile of coarser material farther up the hill. Still one heck of a lot of RCC needed.

Juan had his first livestream yesterday covering the fire. In the video, he pointed out someones marijuana garden (~10min in) and apparently there are a bunch around that area.

Every time they anounce him on one of the press briefings, they say he is with some press organization.

The Grass Valley Union

Just found this video that explains it at about the 2:30 point.

Exclusive Interview with Juan Browne (blancolirio) about Lake Oroville Dam | 3-24-17

Of course, I was beat out by Chokey.

Must be some kind of research bot.

I'm just going to consider this as being "Fake News" for the time being... you know - so as not to hamper my Dam-Breaking-Apocalypse dreams.

I never even knew of RCC until this happened. How long have they been using this?

maybe a hundred years, mostly in large civil and water control projects where tensile strength is less important.

edit:

basically, it is very dry stable concrete that will dry hard, with excellent compressive strength, but no rebar.

It can likely be laid continuously with no drying, so it is ideal for situations like this, where they need massive fill that wont wash, fast and in huge volumes. The top layers in the actual spillway will of course be massively reinforced conventional concrete.

Holy crap. So all that had to be rebuilt.  It's the full length of new build. How do people miscommunication get confused about blasting that close to new and weakened structures? Ya think someone would have to permit that with signatures up the chain? Ya I can't imagine working sloped all day tying rebar. Clearly safety isn't s concern.

Look at the aggregate pile they're using for RCC on the web cam "construction far right". That's one heck of a lot of rock they've used up and about a metric crap ton more needed to fill the upper plunge pool. Anyone know where they plan on obtaining more rock?

KCRA had a quick news report on about the damn.  Sounds like they are releasing a report blaming bad design as the reason for failure.

Bad design, building caused dangers at Oroville Dam

Full Report

Guess it wasn't lack of maintenance.

The sweetie working the water hose in the first minute or so!!!

Cute as hell and probably making $50/hour just to spray the new concrete or keep dust down.

Quite an engine in those, or it was running empty.

We move stuff around with a Volvo L90 at work and I can't imagine driving it that fast.

It's almost certainly more an issue with the constantly wetted-down dirt & rock bits gaining a clay-like slippery consistency rather that the power of the engine or weight of the vehicle.
