Part of what makes a show like Andor so fantastic is the not knowing. Luthen is more interesting because we don’t know his background. Syril is more interesting because we don’t know what he is going to do or who his uncle is.
There is so much that we don’t know, and I hope I’ll remember how it felt. Explanations often ruin things. Remember when we didn’t know exactly what the Force was? And then it was explained? |

Think about what Luthen Rael is up against.
The Sith planned for a thousand years to bring about the Empire. Sidious himself spent about 45 years of his life solely dedicated to becoming Emperor and a Sith strong in the dark side (he had no real hobbies, no loves, no distractions, just completely dedicated with an unrelenting genius IQ and worth ethic). Luthen has had to spend 15 years to position his ISB asset and to develop his relationship and trust with Senator Mon Mothma. Just to get to this point has cost Luthen 15 years of hard paranoid inducing work, it's a miracle he's still sane and we see for Saw Gerrera that his rebel life has cost him a big piece of his sanity. Luthen is literally up against an individual not only with every conceivable conventional advantage, but who can literally see into the future to a certain degree. Luthen is right, he will NEVER see the Rebellion prevail, he will almost certain die before the Empire is defeated. He will be lost to history, unremembered while folks like Mon Mothma, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker have statutes built for them. Yet, despite all of that he presses forward every damn day with everything he has to bring about the Empire's end. That is the very definition of a hero and shows how one man can really make a difference even in a galaxy of trillions. I hope Luthen isn't a force user. I hope he is just a common man, because in my mind that makes him even more inspiring and endearing. |

Seems they backward-planned everything from Rogue 1, so my guess is they put the story together before deciding the episode/series structure. |

I hope he is just a common man, because in my mind that makes him even more inspiring and endearing. View Quote I don't think Luthen knows about the Sith lord, so he is fighting what he believes to be a conventional battle against the empire. Very few people, Vader for one knows, that the emperor is also a Sith lord. Everyone else just refers to him as the emperor and the galactic senate still exists up until ANH. If he were a former Jedi or temple guard then he would know of them, I don't know that he would make the connection between Sith and emperor. He certainly has some combat training and is cool under fire, reminds me of James Bond a bit without the women. Maybe he was a former galactic republic spymaster in his younger days. He would be somewhere around Obi Wan's age it would appear and has collected things from that timeframe in his shop. Palp thinks he sees the future, however as we know it isn't always interpreted correctly. Yoda says Difficult to see, always in motion the future. I agree that Luthen is up against is beyond his ability to fully grasp, however, even the best laid plans can be foiled by something unexpected. Its really going to be hard to wrap up in 13 more episodes. There are 6ish years between now and Rogue 1. In Rogue 1 Cassian is referred to as head of rebel intelligence and referred to as Captain Cassian Andor. Getting from escaping prison to being basically Luthen by Rogue 1 is going to be hard to do in such a short span. He is well known to Mon by then, but now they don't know the other exists. Its a great series and will be interesting to see how it moves forward but it needs to be 3-4 years I think, they have a lot of ground to cover. I mean without the payoff of finding out about Jyn and liberating her from prison, what's the payoff of the series? I mean the last act of Andor would basically be discovering Jyn and planning her liberation from prison, if it followed how Rogue 1 went into ANH. |

Just like in R1 with the Star Destroyer looking literally like it was hovering over the city. I remember watching some behind-the-scenes stuff for R1, and the artists said the reason the CGI looks so fantastic is not because they wanted it to. They deliberately make the ships look like models from the originals. With whit-ish panels and strong lighting. Contrast this with the godawful cgi of the sequel trilogy, which was an attempt to make everything look "fancy" and dramatic, and you can see the clear difference. |

I keep thinking how the show opened with Andor looking for his long lost sister. They set that up and haven’t done anything with it since then. I just wonder if that will come back into the season finale. Perhaps the ISB agent will end up being his sister, that she was picked up by the ISB and raised by them.

Originally the plan was for five seasons. Disney got cheap and toned it down to two. I hope Luthen isn’t a sith or Jedi because it’s been nice with R1 and this series not to have space wizards and laser swords in a Star Wars story. The fact that he has the walking stick and a khyber crystal that he values far more than it’s worth makes me wonder though.
