![]() Inside Elon Musk's Famous $50,000 Tiny Home |
Many of his affordable options were only affordable so long as one neglected to check the math. I'm generally skeptical of his claims, though I wish him all the best and hope he's right.

Looks like a mother-in-law suite you throw in the backyard. Added bonus, she might off herself tripping into the corners of that counter.

There's a guy I work with built a tiny (but unorthodox) house. Those remind me of that.
there's a video about it somewhere, I'll see if I can find it. ETA: Found it. ![]() Apple architect picks a small prefab to savor CA countryside |

These will be popular in major cities to house bums. I suppose they're a good alternative to mobile homes or maybe job trailers too.
I wouldn't mind a decent tiny house for a guest house, workshop/office, or a cabin on some property, but I'm not living in one.
For that price, no way.
You be better off buying somewhere unincorporated with lax building codes and using a storage shed. |
I’d be in for one at that price. It would go well on the back 40 at my family property in the mountains.
I've always wanted a glass-walled house somewhere like AZ with incredible landscape views.
The problem with these pre fabs is they are either too small or quickly become too expensive compared with regular housing. |
There have been so many alternative homes for those who crave "sustainability", "environmentally concious" and even the downtrodden and homeless over so many years now, they you would almost expect there to be entire camps full of these.
Mobile ones, folding ones. Expanding ones, freee range bamboo ones, homes made out of recycled hulls left on the plates of the mollusks consumed at Red Lobster and shingled with the cheap plastic lobster bibs......... The reality is....... There are none. Neat concept....but nobody is buying for now. |
Guesthouse, cabin, replaceable/movable beach house in hurricane areas. For the right application, I'd certainly consider something like that.
I will not live in the pod.
I will not eat the bugs. I will not give up my firearms. I will not bend a knee. I will not comply. |
Perfect for a disposable house in Florida.
How expensive to cool in the summer - all those windows cause concern - they let in heat unless they used good windows, which I doubt at that price. |
I prefer not to eat my meals within 8 feet of where I take a shit.
My family has requested a “holiday house” to decorate down by the gate. This ain’t it.

what on earth?
this is all just clickbait with elon's name and face plastered on it for views. In a recent interview I believe he mentioned that he lives in a airstream trailer at the SpaceX 'Starbase' site in Texas. I think there is one of those tiny homes deployed there as well but I think they use it for meetings. |

Remember when crypto went crazy because people thought that he might tweet about a coin? |

Then at the end it’s a company that really hasn’t delivered anything let alone for $50k. |

For that price I would build my own KazcynkiCondo shack in the mountains.
I've taken a look at these, and even been offered ad deals/sponsorships from the company.
Not a fan at all, recently I've been wayyyyymore interested in building a house up with SIPs in a lego-like manner. For the sqft I think I could beat one of these by about $25k or more. |

He has a tiny house made in Las Vegas by a company begging for investors. He does not have a “Tesla” house unless he bought the company between last week and now. I do not think that company will make it though. They are only producing a few homes per week I think.

I bought a few shares of Boxabl 2 months ago, as a gamble. They have something close to 150k units on pre-order, at 60k each. That's close to 9 billion in my TN math.

prefab homes have been a thing for a while. especially in japan. i saw a vid a while ago where they were assembling one .it was a standard looking home. the wiring, plumbing etc was already in the walls. you create a foundation (normal slab or basement etc) and then assemble the walls and floors and connect the plumbing/ electrical/ hvac.
there are companies doing it in this country. tesla thing is a sort of twist on the idea. this would be interesting for a 'cabin' if you bought a large parcel of land. |
or I could get a 2000 sq ft fixer-upper on 5 acres for the same price.

I mean if I had a bunch of acreage and wanted a cheap cabin, maybe.

View Quote Question always is can they deliver at all, let alone at the price advertised? Preorders mean nothing in the long term. Rivian has lots of preorders but have had to cut their predicted production numbers quite a few times. |
