I loved my G20 and it would digest any 10mm ammo I tried in it.

Reality was that it was just too big.

I could carry it concealed but it was a pain in the ass, so I sold it and got another 1911 in .45 ACP.

No, don’t look at the M&P models.
Too many problematic reports. Majorly avoid.
You can thank me later.

Guaranteed to spot you another 50 pounds on the bench and 5 more minutes in the sack to...side effects are generally a big beard

The P80 PF45 with G20 slide+bbl is (for me) a much, much better to shooter compared to a g20 or g40.

I carry the PF45 in the woods everywhere I go.

About to go into the wilderness tomorrow for a week with it strapped to my chest.

I'll fix your problem for you if you like...

10mm 220 hard cast has a funky O-give shape that will cause it to every once in a while pull a FTF.. It acts much like someone limp wristed the shot and leaves the slide anywhere from mostly open to barely open...Does not matter who's 220 hard cast, does not seem to matter who's pistol..I've heard of a lot of them doing it..The easy cure, We  in my group that carry 10mm for bears use only Underwood 200 grain hard cast..We have never heard or scene a 200 HC hang the slide..

You should tune into my thread in the Glock sub about the new gen 5 I bought on June 5th. Especially if you intend to shoot hot heavy rounds. It has been back at Glock since last Tuesday. Still don't know what the issue is.

I've never shot 220 through mine, but have shot a bunch of DT's 230 through it.  Obviously not a ton as it is flippin expensive, but I've burned through some.  Never had an issue.

Now I'm transitioning to Underwood 200s.  Mainly because they look sexy and were affordable at the time.

Gen3 20SF.  Put a captured guide rod and I think a 20lb spring in it-might have been 22.

Carried a G20 for a long time.
The ergonomics are terrible.
Thinking of building one with a Lone Wolf frame and Brownells slide.
The M&P 10mm frame is nice and narrow for a double stack but the Glock pattern has a lower bore axis.

A hot loaded .45 (.45 Super territory) can be everything the 10mm is. I'd advise anyone considering a 10mm that also owns a .45 to consider it if it is a good fit for your sidearm of choice.

If you reload then a big yes. I have a 20, 29, and a number of other 10mm’ s. If you don’t reload it’s probably not worth it because very few manufacturers load the 10 anywhere near its capability

I love mine! I could go on for hours honestly but it is best suited for defense against large animals. The self defense ammo is not wildly different or more effective than the defensive ammo in other calibers that come in smaller, lighter platforms. Considering how expensive the ammo has gotten it wouldn't be cheap to feed either.

Is there a difference in the frame between a G20 and G41?

Nope, just different slides.

ETA: Glock designed the 20 specifically to handle 10mm. Then they built the 21(.45) on the same frame. All the other companies were retrofitting their .45 frames to build 10mm pistols and many weren't up to task.

For a woods gun I currently have a S&W 4506 set up to shoot .45 Super. I carry it with two spare mags and Underwood hardcast loads. If I shoot that thing until it runs empty, it does turn in to an effective club/hammer .

Have been thinking about changing that back to shoot .45 ACP and venturing in to 10mm with a G20 instead...

G29

Use a +2 magazine extender and you've more or less got the grip of the G19.

TBH I don't see the point of the 40 besides a dedicated hunting gun or range toy.  Not that there is anything wrong with either purpose.

The problem for me for a bear defense gun would be drawing it with either hand in one quick motion...Hard to do with it centered on your chest compared to the 20....Just too long to make it easy to do, and if a bear is chewing on my ass, I want things simple to do, not complex....

Trip into the Beartooth Absaroka Wilderness
Quick trip with my dad and his neighbor for some fishing.
We went out of Red Lodge MT.
Took an easy trail in to Lost Lake.
Caught my first Arctic Grayling x2.
Took a day to hit Black Canyon Lake.
Excellent fishing. Yellowstone Cutts aplenty.
Then a couple days exploring the rest of the area. I'll post pics when I get a chance to re-size them.
Excellent adventure. Been to the area a few times and I'll go back whenever I can.

No better or worse than a 6” (or longer) big bore revolver? … which all the manly-man residents of rural Alaska are said to carry for immediate bear defense?

For me, my G40 is a dedicated hunting/outdoor/“woods” gun.  Admittedly, we have no threat of Grizz attacks in my state, just deer, hogs, and maybe in the SE areas some smaller black bears. … But a 10mm long-slide, loaded appropriately, would have those covered.
