My SW is 12* bounce and I have LW in 4/8/10 bounce depending on conditions. If you like to open the face around the green, it’s easier with grinds with heel and trailing edge relief. It keeps the leading edge closer to the ground. It’s really obvious in the store which grinds are better at this. If you live in western WA, you’ll probably be better off leaning towards higher bounce for the softer conditions. I probably use my LW for 70% of shots around the green, SW 20%, and something else 10%. Did a wedge clinic/fitting the other day. Pro said he uses two sets of wedges, a summer set (one week in August) and an everything else. We're sloppy wet most the year on the west side, but two days without rain and 80 in the summer everything dries up and dies, like my lawn. ![]() |
| So I didn't play but a few rounds last year due to a bad hernia, then surgery. By the time I could get out and start hitting balls again it was waterfowl season. I played one horrible round early February. I finally got tired of hitting the range, sometimes it was coming back, but mostly just bad. I called my old instructor & scheduled a lesson for today. I told him lets just start over like it's my first lesson. Right away he says "well, your grip is where it used to be, all wrong". Got that squared away and was still making bad contact. "Slow down, you're snatching the club away and your transition is so abrupt that you're coming over the top, again". And "you're at the top of your backswing and then you try to keep going. You're lifting up and/or swaying off the ball. And you're starting your downswing with your arms, not your hips". All of my old flaws were back. He said the main thing I need to focus on is slowing down my tempo. He also suggested a Orange Whip trainer to use at home. Any of you all use one? |

While it does help with getting loose, using an Orange whip to start from the bottom and swing (take it back from address to top of backswing and then rip it) will really help keep your tempo smooth. |

Your instructor knows your swing, but that's 4 things to work on during one lesson. You specifically asked to start from scratch. I would find it difficult to have 4 things bouncing around in my head while trying to hit a golf ball. Since you mentioned training aids, I found one for you to evaluate. https://www.performancegolf.com/straight-stick I have not tried this product but it looks like it works on the areas your instructor identified while taking a couple of variables out of the equation. It appears it works while you hit shots, which is a bonus in my opinion. Something you can't do with the whip stick. I've tried that one and it feels more like a warm up tool that may help to build swing speed to me. I personally play my best with a quiet mind. Maybe one swing thought. Best 'lesson' I ever got was at a range in Sarasota. I was hitting warm up shots in front of an old guy parked on a bench, smoking a cigarette behind. I wasn't hitting it particularly poorly; just warming up. He wanders over and says, "son, I've had a top 10 finisher in every major except the masters. You got power to burn, I don’t know why you just don’t stay down on it" I knew what he meant, thanked him and took his swing thought to the course. Struck it wonderfully that day. I go back to his swing thought every time things start to go sideways. I would encourage you to practice with a purpose. Banging balls for the sake of repetition isn't typically the answer. Best of luck in your journey. |

| Anyone do a club fitting at Club Champion? They're advertising a "free" (I know TANSTAAFL), fitting with club purchase. My instructor want's me off of my graphite shafted irons, and on some steel shafted cavitybacks. |

FWIW, when I was fitted last, I was very clear that there is zero chance I'm playing steel shafts ever again, even if that leaves "something" on the table. I can play back to back 36 hole days on a guy's weekend with graphite shafts and have very little need for ibuprofen. Steel, not so much. At 54, score means less to me than comfort. |

Wasted $35 on this thing from the bargain bin. Attached File Is this not a beautiful damn club! I just wanted to see what a forged was all about. My cheapo "game improvement" looks like a fucking tank next to it. Managed a few pure shots, felt great, even on the longer side for what I average a 7i, even with 4 degrees less loft. How's that sub forum coming along mods? |

I just saw a YT video yesterday where the guy recommended to carry a flag around with you so if you need to hit your short irons 100+ yards, you place the flag 20 yards away to simulate a bunker shot, guaranteeing you'll blade the shot and launch the ball 125+. |

| I hit the new Taylormade driver yesterday the IQ 10 or whatever it’s called not the Max one but the standard one was underwhelmed by it I will say it does seem a bit more forgiving than the stealth, nothing really catching my eye in the golf equipment world so far this year , Bettinardi have new irons coming out I watched I clip on YouTube with Fred couples hitting them they have muscle backs and cavity backs maybe do a blended set if they feel nice . |

My TSR3 is pretty safe. I haven’t bothered hitting any of the new driver releases. I’m seeing the elbow surgeon in 2 hours. It may be time for graphite shafts in my irons. As is my TSR 3 not going anywhere for the foreseeable future great club , good luck with the doc today , graphite has come a long way in the iron department. |

I think most people's issue trying to switch to graphite in their irons is with the weight of the shaft, not stiffness or ability to handle torque. |

Weight can playa big difference, I went for a club fitting outside with trackman the fitter tried me in a Nippon 105 steel shaft and then tried me in a 120 shaft I was a full club longer with the 120 shafts . |

@Sean124 I had elbow surgery for golfers elbow about 18 months ago because I couldn't take the pain any longer. Doc screwed it up and now I have less functionality in my fingers & wrist and the elbow is marginally better. My hand was fine prior to the surgery. I'm getting on the phone today to see another wrist, hand & elbow specialist to see if anything can be done. I hope your appointment goes well. I got new clubs recently, went with all graphite shafts except for the Vokeys. |

Yeah, a bonus of being one of the Wild's practice goalies was knowing the medical staff and who to go to for my shoulder surgery. On a medical note, protect your eyes and skin. I do a wide brimmed Callaway hat or the Aussie Titlist had, but am adding another. League team is Weapons of Grass Destruction, so this logo on front, "WOGD" on the back Attached File Being old with zero fucks to give about fashion is awesome |

Now I wait for a 2nd opinion. Sometimes I really hate the VA. MRI and X-ray shows a partially torn tricep tendon, bone calcifications, bone marrow edema, and arthritis. |
