Best I have- someone I know sent a $200 check to the ATF along with a Form 1. Only $2.00 was removed from his account, so he has a $2.00 Form 1. That was several years ago, they never corrected it.

I had a similar thing happen to me once.  I had an extra $3,000,000 show up in my savings account.  Talked about it to a cyber security expert on a plane.  He said it is organized crime syndicates moving money around to hide the trail.   They run a program that moves it from account to account for only few seconds.  Paper trail becomes too confused to follow.  Would not surprise me is some government agencies were doing the same thing.

Question, if the bank missed the screw up for 6-8 months, and he didn’t spend any of it would he keep the interest?

He just withdrew $200, so his balance was exactly $8,200,200 before?

Another one. What's going on here?

Florida woman who withdrew her $1,200 stimulus check is stunned to find an extra $8.5 million deposited in her bank account

A woman in Florida was left stunned when she tried to withdraw her stimulus check from an ATM and discovered an additional $8.5 million had been deposited into her account.

Diana Lagulli was taking cash out at a Wawa convenience store in Sanford on Thursday when she glanced down at her receipt to find her remaining bank balance displaying a few extra zeros than she'd expected.

Confused and shocked at the multi-million dollar sum written in bold ink at the bottom of the paper, Lagulli said she called her son laughing, telling him: ‘Your parents are millionaires!'

But her reverie didn’t last long. After phoning her bank to inquire about the jackpot sum, Lagulli learned the $8.5 million deposit had been the result of a malfunction, rather than good fortune.

Within 12 hours Lagulli received a text alert notifying her that her bank balance had been reduced back down to normal.

But though she was no longer a millionaire, the retiree decided to take the surprise windfall as inspiration, later using some of her stimulus check to buy groceries for a nurse she'd seen stocking up on supplies in Walmart.

‘It made me very happy to do that even though I don’t have $8 million,’ Lagulli said. ‘You should have seen her face’.

I've seen these stories before.  The best answer I've seen is:
Print balance inquiries from ATM.  Use them at the bar to casually write your number on the back of for hot chicks.  Watch them prove to you money doesn't matter.

Happened to me in 2002 & 2003.

I got laid off by a place that had their own credit union.  Lost the job, kept the CU membership.  2002 tax season and I notice a deposit for about $8000.  I called the CU and the lady says it's my tax refund.  I told her I didn't do my taxes yet and was unemployed for a couple months after getting laid off from there.

The manager got on and said he'd pull it out and fix it.  Probably someone fat fingered the account number.

2003, this time it was $8900.   I didn't say shit.  I didn't move it to savings but I didn't say shit.  It sat in my checking account for a month before it disappeared.

Whoever was fucking it up didn't do it again in 2004

Perfect opportunity.

Should have wrote on it,

"Bitches for a good time call (your burner phone)."

And dropped it where you found it.

You would have been swimming in beaver.

Immediately transfer it to a savings account and shut the fuck up about it unless someone comes looking for it. If they do give it back and keep the interest. If they don't after say 10 years then have a great retirement
