This is cool one from WW2.
The 37mm Spade Mortar. An entrenching tool that doubles as a commando mortar / 40mm grenade launcher precursor.  The Soviets tried to modernize the idea in the 70's-80's, this time using the VOG 25 40mm grande, but nothing seems to have come of it; likely the conclusion was a UGL was more useful.
