What's as big as a house, burns 20 liters of fuel every hour, puts out a shit-load of smoke and noise, and cuts an apple into three pieces? A Soviet machine made to cut apples into four pieces!

View Quote Led me to the Yak-141. My question now is was there another design that the Russians copied the nozzle design from, or did we get the F-35B's rotating nozzle idea from the Yak-141? Yakovlev Yak-41M/Yak-141 Soviet supersonic VTOL fighter ETA Found the answer to my question about the nozzle. Should have know the Russian's didn't come up with it on their own. Convair Model 200 Attached File https://www.codeonemagazine.com/f35_article.html?item_id=137 Russian Swivel Nozzle Designs A great deal of misinformation has appeared on the Internet regarding the relationship of the Soviet Yak-41 (later Yak-141), NATO reporting name Freestyle, to the X-35 and the rest of the JSF program. The Pratt & Whitney 3BSD nozzle design predates the Russian work. In fact the 3BSD was tested with a real engine almost twenty years before the first flight of the Yak..... ....The 3BSD was invented in America in the 1960s, proposed by Convair to the US Navy in the 1970s, first flown by the Russians in the late 1980s, re-engineered from the 1960 Pratt & Whitney design for the X-35 in the 1990s, and put into production for the F-35 in the 2000s |

Plus the crew has to be qualified to operate a boat, as well as an airplane. Plus with an amphibian, you still ahve to maintain the landing gear. Unless the abililty to operate on water is desperately needed, an amphibian is the worst of both worlds. |

It's huge, Google Maps Link View Quote Neat stuff. Scary looking forge presses with those huge flywheel gears I was looking for it on Bing maps. Lots of other mills built in the area. It was all out of range of nazi bombers in WWII past the urals so their steel and heavy manufacturing was safe there. North of there is Verkhnaya Salda - that’s the town where their big titanium mill is. They have their own YouTube channel. I imaging it’s like the stuff that would’ve been played on Soviet era TV. It looks like they have done a lot of upgrades to the mill in the last 10-20 years Guys I knew who visited that plant in the 1990s told me they still used horse to pull carts in the mill for plates and bars back when they visited. |

Even decent two lane gravel roads would improve their economy. Much of the country is a swamp, and so the roads would have to be built up heavily & probably would still sink quickly. They also don’t have access to good limestone gravel, which is a reason why Russian concrete has such a poor reputation. But mainly, they don’t have any money to build such things. |
