Quoted: I shot one owned by @buck19delta. Was expecting a worm hole to open up upon squeezing the trigger. Big pile of meh. I mean, it’s fuckin sweet but I was expecting.....more. I also have a 375 H&H that I’ve fired some stout safari loads through so there’s that. Maybe it was because of the load? The Hornady flex tip rounds or whatever they’re called. View Quote Depends on the load. Trapdoor and cowboy loads feel like plinking. Great fun. You'll feel LeveRevolution and many other hunting loads and probably not be tempted to fire more than a handful. Shoot some Garrett cartridges and you might decide to fight the next bear instead. |

Quoted: - is an original Springfield "trap door" and should only be loaded with cast lead bullets and either black powder (or if you really know what you are doing) a reduced substitute load. It goes without saying it should first be checked by a gunsmith; most owners don't shoot their trapdoors anymore. Rolling blocks are slightly stronger - but probably not many left in shootable condition. View Quote https://i.imgur.com/szoYtRP.mp4 |

Hell of a lot of history there, I'd love it too. ETA-here's my Marlin, and the deer I killed with it. Not a monster, but my first antlered buck, shot with a homemade bullet the first hour of the first season in 50 years or more that Iowa allowed rifles. His head is on the wall. Youth season opens in a little over a week. My daughter wants a buck, bigger than mine. She thinks if she gets one hers can go up and mine comes down. Yeah, she got competitive after she got a doe last year. |

View Quote That belt looks like it would need suspenders to hold it up! Had a H&R Shikari back in the day. Someone had replaced the plastic trigger guard and barrel band with brass copies. I never loaded for it because I had read about the weak receivers. I sold it and got a Ruger #1. I had 7 boxes of brass from the H&R to load. The #1 has never had a factory round through it. I load 400gr Speers at 1920. That Shikari was beautiful. I kick myself at least once a week for selling it. |

I know when I had one, I saw some ammo listed that said "Use only in..." and the H&R was on that list. |

Quoted: I'll soon have one in a 14" T/C Contender... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Monster of a cartridge - can pack a huge punch. I'll soon have one in a 14" T/C Contender... Hold on. Roll with the recoil, don't try to hold it down. Just control where it goes so you don't hit yourself between the eyes with the front sight. And, for the love of God, put the fingers of your support hand OVER the triggerguard, not under and helping hold the gun tighter. Heed this or you will bleed a lot and maybe break your first two knuckles. I learned this with a 14" .44, not even close to what the .45-70 does. Gloves help cushion your palms. Learn to reload and to cast if you don't already. Assuming cheap lead you can go from $2 per round to less than 20 cents-seriously. My cast reloads cost me about $9.50 for 50 rounds. The $1.80 per round saved pays off $250 worth of entry level loading and casting equipment fast. |

I just inherited a 45/70 Marlin from my dad, I shot a couple 300gr rounds. I am new to these guns but loved it. I got a couple boxes that used to be 405gr loads but thats just empty brass.
Reading this thread I should buy a set of dies for my Dillon! I have about 60-80 rounds of brass. Of course I would need those damn primers :( |
