Why do generals in the field not wear a sidearm (guy in the middle)? Seems you’d want to at least act the part of an armed troop.

You mean the guy who made a show of wearing hand grenades but had wraps of tape around the spoons rendering them useless?

There were only 4 or 5 US generals killed in ground combat in WWII and I can’t think of a single instance where a .45 or a hand grenade would have been tremendous use. No generals were killed in combat in Korea and I believe it was only 1 in Vietnam. Historically speaking, generals generally surrender rather than pulling out the their pistol and using them as things have gone quite bad at that point.

Edit: we can debate this one as I looked it up to see how wrong I was. Maurice Rose was killed by a German tank commander with an MP-40. Rose was either attempting to surrender and unholster his pistol or use it to shoot at a tank.

Last PBY Catalina is US Navy service,1957. I think it would have been neat had it been repainted in the grey and white scheme like the last reserve Corsairs of the same time.

Taping the Safety Spoons was actually fairly common to prevent any snag from unintentionally pulling the pin and the grenade then going BOOM!

You just undo the wrap of tape (usually doubled over on itself at the end to make a "grab tab").

If you watch "Blackhawk Down", when prepping to go out on the mission, the Delta Guys are "tape" their grenades.

Yes I think Max Cleland made that mistake in Vietnam and had to live with it through the remainder of his life.

The Albatross was marketed as "triphibian" and could be equipped with skis for safe landings on ice or snow of greater than 6" depth.  All Canadian and some US Albatross had the kit, presumably the Norwegians did too.

There is a Rose medical center in Denver. Was there about two years ago. They have a shrine to him hidden in a corner, nobody seems aware if it. Gen. Rose was Jewish (though not observant, CO National Guard which is why this is in Denver) and highest ranking Americans officer killed in WWII. If you go to their website,  nothing about Gen. Rose. It's sad.

https://healthonecares.com/locations/rose/

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Rose
The son and grandson of rabbis from Poland, Rose was at the time the highest ranking Jew in the U.S. Army, though he was not especially religious, did not publicize his faith, and claimed in his Army records to be Protestant. He was also the highest-ranking American killed by enemy fire in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. Rose was married twice and had two sons.

I like that patrol boat, would like to know more about it.
Edit to add, and now I do - the top picture is a rendering of the original mockup, which had a 105mm cannon, and the other is the single boat currently undergoing trials with a 30mm autocannon. A missile firing version is in the works, but not yet developed. I'd like to see the 105 version developed further, but it can only carry 20 troops to the 30mm carrying 60. Interesting catamaran design.

Its a Spanish Hispano Buchon HA1112-M1L which was a further development of the ME-109 powered by a Merlin engine. I think the Merlin destroys the good lines of the ME109 airframe where as the inverted DB-605 did not.
