Is there any specific shell load that would damage the bayonet?

A bayonet makes more since on a shotgun than  a rifle, since a shotgun is a shorter range weapon in the first place

I prefer non serrated blades for fighting knives or bayonets. At least on a bayonet you'll have better leverage to remove it.

When I was in the Guard many many years ago, we improvised a M-7 Bayonet as a "Stand Off" for "Dynamic Entry Door Removal" in our MP company.

Cut the tip off the scabbard so there was a bit of point showing - then jam that point into the door frame or door to frame crease to keep muzzle off the door and to hold the muzzle centered while we Ducked & Covered to blow the door.

Worked great & another example of NCO "Know How" when the Official system said "No Way - No How"...

And this attitude, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Army dropped bayonet training as an institution and the Marine Corps will remain America's shock troops.

Those Swiss Pioneer bayonets are pretty cool.

I wish I could remember who the guy is that will modify your bayonet to fit a different gun.  IIRC, he had modified some of the Pioneer bayonets to work on ARs and other firearms that use bayonets for the AR.

Bayonets also have an incredible psychological effect on both the person wielding it and his opponent.

Here’s my Centerfire Systems 149.95 special. These are Mossberg 500 ATP’s that were imported in from Malaysia. They are pretty beat up, but mine cleaned up just fine. I added the bayonet and sling, the rest was 149.95 shipped.

A bayonet doesn't need gas or oil to work.
It also weighs a lot less.
Does that help?

Thanks Ben that was a good one.  By the way
my son is a Marine and I was in the 82nd Airborne Division.  To me if I have to fight with a
bayonet that is a last resort and I've all ready lost.
I have faith in my shotgun shooting as a NRA shotgun
instructor , trap shooter and hunter.  But I guess they can be cool as I remember putting it my
M16.  Yeah I'm older but give me a break.  Take care
in this sh@t ball time.

But it's $300 from them, so not cheap at all. (Although Petr is a stand up dude and well worth doing business with)
I can verify that it works on a 14" barreled Bren 805, and I assume on the Bren 2 with 14" as well, with the barrel mounted bayonet lug.
I can also verify that it works great on M4/M16 style AR's. (14.5" and 20" barrels with the standard FSB.)
I don't know about the 590. Don't have one of those.
