“Henry-Portrait of A Serial Killer”=you feel dirty after watching it. Like you need a shower.
“High Tension”=French flick with subtitles. Worth the watch. Screws with your head big time. “Mother!”= surprised some good actors agreed to do this one. It’s out there. And the one scene is just brutal and deserves an X rating. |

To me there are 2 kinds of fucked up movies: those that designed to be shocking, like The Human Centipede or Martyrs where it's built into the premise, and those movies where the logic of the events in the film reach a monstrous conclusion.
A couple in this category: S7ven, the routine cops vs serial killer premise is ramped up to an asymptote as each reveal shows John Doe to be farther ahead of the cops and so much worse than they imagined. "If we catch John Doe and he turns out to be the Devil, I mean he's Satan himself, he might live up to our expectations...but he's not the Devil. He's just a man" Oh my. The Counselor, where an ordinary guy decides it's a good idea to do business-just once- with a drug Cartel. Every single horrible thing that happens subsequent to that decision is laid out plain as day in the foreshadowing, and the denouement is completely unsurprising-yet so shockingly vicious- that it is gut wrenching. Korean Old Boy. The set up for the end twist is so deft, and the consequences thereof so painful that the mindfuck is just that much more devastating. |

It was intentionally brutal for no other purpose I can discern besides being intentionally brutal. |

Seven was a really incredible film in its day, i rewatched it recently and it really has a 90s feel to it that made me nostalgic, and the shock was of course spoiled now. But it’s such a classic.
Oddly enough, the new Batman movie has a heavy Seven vibe and influence about it. It doesn’t really qualify s a “fucked up movie”, but the Batman vs a serial killer, and the more raw and realistic take on Batman is really something worth seeing. It ties in with the feel of Joker. |
