Stage racing is the stupidest idea ever dropped on the fans. The points system is retarded as are licenses for the teams when Nascar can not draw 40 cars to most events. Most of the season they start 36-38 cars. In the past it was 43 and before that damn near everyone who qualified could race.

There are a lot more entertainment options now than there was 25 years ago. Eyeballs have moved on. The automobile racing isn't the marvel that it once was.
You can drive a car fast who gives a shit. |

Every sport that has its sanctioning body have to force parity deserves to fucking die. When a sport is filled with losers that have to get someone else to weaken their competition, it is in its death throes. Fans that whine about wanting to see someone else win aren’t going to be long time fans of a sport to begin with and professional leagues of all types need to quit pandering to them.

The economy in 2008 was the final nail in the NASCAR coffin. We lost alot of teams and crew members during that 08/09 season. Many never returned.
I was working for Ganassi when DEI merged with us. I got laid off Jan '09 and went to Front Row Motorsports for a few weeks with Andretti but they didnt have the budget to pay me so I left. I wasnt going to continue working for free. I never returned to the sport and havent watched a single race since. My brother started out with Yates with Kenny Irwin and left when Robert hooked up with Roush. He bounced around a couple teams after that, including Ganassi. (Brian Pattie and JPM are both complete assholes.) He left NASCAR probably 10 years ago and will never return. I think its a dying sport. They have tried too hard to make it mainstream and have completely alienated their base supporters. Nobody gives a flying fuck about NASCAR anymore. |
|
Never liked nascar but as a child In the 80s I did love seeing the Skoal Bandit car on tv.
|
|
NASCAR died when it went mainstream.
When everything had to be dumbed down for new morons that just started watching it. The fucking idiots that had the scanners to listen to the teams talk fucked things up too. I do miss the Dr Dick Berggren's drama - "I'm down here in Rusty Wallace's pit. He's just radioed in there is a problem with the engine. He thinks cylinder #7's intake rocker arm's adjuster has backed off." |

V8 Supercars would have been a great replacement but it only lasted one year here.

I enjoy nascar. Still pray and sing the actual national anthem before every race. Have met great people at every race I’ve been to.
Was a Carl edwards fan and picked up Ryan Blaney as my driver back when he was getting started. Talk about zero to hero the last two seasons. Exciting for me. |

i hung on until my driver hung it up
but if terry came back tomorrow there's no way i'd watch the shit they try to pass off as nascar today better times... This Moment in NASCAR History: Earnhardt, Labonte tangle at Bristol in 1995 we won't talk about bristol '99... only time i ever remember earnhardt gettiing booed by the whole racetrack. and he fucking deserved it. |

I worked at DEI when it was under construction. Dale was a great guy . Like a big kid . He was always smiling and very friendly, not the intimidator that he was behind the wheel . His passing was the end of an era . Rest easy # 3 .

It died with Dales death and Brian France nailed 40 into the coffin to make sure.

He wasn't "The Intimidator" he was a titty baby. If he wrecked someone on purpose that was cool. If someone wrecked him he cried like a baby.

As much as I could not stand they guy. I think you are right. NASCAR kind of needed the bad guy in black. I used to watch it as kid from the late 80's to the early 2000's. Tuned in for every race. After his passing it just was not as interesting. Sure I will turn on a race if it's on but it isn't just see television anymore for me.

Quoted: Dale dying and them pussing out and not calling it the Winston Cup anymore were the one-two punch that killed it. View Quote Yep, about where I stand too. Every decision nascar has made since then just reinforced that I made the right decision way back when. Sucks… it was fun while it lasted. |

this thread reminded me that NASCAR actually streams a bunch of the old races
https://classics.nascar.com/channel/vfc-9zyg7vz-1 there was some amazing racing in the 80s and 90s |

If you are in the “ nascar has died “ camp , take an hour or 2 and watch a race . You might change your mind . Yeah , there is a lot of commercials , but if you can record it to fast forward past the numerous commercials you may actually enjoy the racing . These younger drivers are good IMO .

Quoted: NASCAR died the minute Toyota entered it. View Quote Toyota entered it because it's not real stock car racing. Funny enough, Toyota/Lexus now makes more sport oriented models than the Big 3 combined. Also, racecars don't have limiters or restrictors. Go karts for children have those. As a kid who loved cars growing up, I was obsessed with NASCAR for a while. Then Daytona one year had multiple very long rain delays. Unfortunately, young me had learned math at that point, and calculated my mom's Buick could have completed the race in less time than the "racecars" driving at highway speeds. Lame. |

They don’t even race in the rain.

It's become entertainment (and not even good at that) instead of a sport: too much like WWE or whatever they call it now. |

As a Rusty fan. I have to agree, Dale and his ride or die fans could have put a stop the woke bullshit .
Dale was a whiny bitch tho that wanted to wreck people and hurt them (rusty at talledega). Would wreck anyone dangerously to win , while whining for being barely touched. With that being said him and his fanbase was what kept it old school as long as possible. Despite his numerous faults |
