Quoted: This isn’t the one where he turns into a worm is it? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: the beef I have with both trailers is that Chani would not have called him "Paul." She called him "Usul." Paul even mentions this in the first chapter, when the Reverend Mother is interrogating him, he says the girl in his dream said "tell me of the waters of your homeworld, Usul," and he muses that his homeworld is Caladan but maybe she's calling him Usul. Also, Duncan Idaho was a VERY minor character. yet he shows up in most of this trailer. I hope they didn't rewrite the story to involve him more. This isn’t the one where he turns into a worm is it? Paul never turned into a worm. That was his son Leto II. |

I'm rereading the novel. I'd forgotten how dense a story it is. I expect to be disappointed by the movie but I am also ready to appreciate it no matter what. I don't go to movies often but I'm seeing this one on the biggest IMAX screen I can find.

I watched the original Dune in theater as a kid. They handed out a flyer when you walked in that explained some of the names and terminology to help you follow the movie.
I'm a fan but not a huge Dune nerd. I will definitely watch this movie. |

Very nice! I wonder if someone in the production team played the Dune games, the ornitrophter looks straight out of Dune 2000.

Well, the trailer looks interesting...I hope the movie lives up to it! I'll stream it or some such. Never visiting a theater again.

Quoted: Idaho becomes somewhat more important later, I guess. I’m hot/cold on Villeneuve. Arrival was brilliantly made, Sicario was decent. Blade Runner 2045 was fucking awful (though that’s largely due to horrible writing). My wife and I are both huge Dune 1984 movie fans, so we will see this one so fast. This trailer definitely makes it look much better than the first trailer did. I like the new take on things, with the exception of the sandworm. Those long curving inward teeth don't look threatening. It just looks like a big brush or something use to clean corrosion off battery terminals. The 1984 sandworms were awesome.

Quoted: The first book is the only one I enjoyed, to be honest. View Quote I'm not holding out a lot of hope for this movie. It'll be pretty, the critics will love it, but for a serious fan of the books... I predict it'll be as disappointing as the whole "weirding" shit was. Liet is a black woman. The environmental messaging. Raban with 6-pack abs. Harkonnens as "Capitalists" and therefore evil. Things they apparently get right in this one... Age of Paul and Chani. The "feel" of a desert world. The size of the thopters and Guild high liners. The Baron looks creepy AF. The Worms look amazing. Appearance of Duke Leto. Almost identical to how I've always pictured him. Although, the eye color is still wrong. Things I predict they will fuck up: Freman being "peaceful" and wanting to live in "harmony" with Arakis. Harkonnen capitalism keeping Dune from being another Eden. While the "Fremen" and Atreides will be "diverse", I'm betting the Emperor and Harkonnens will be WASP-ish. Betting they will include at least one Gay character, besides the Baron... which isn't a huge thing in the books until you hit the Fish Speakers in God Emperor. |

The Baron was the single worst part of the 1984 adaption, a joke compared to the evil scheming Baron Harkkonen in the novel. Too many people act like this is a remake of that movie when its a new adaption of the source novel, hopefully by screen writers who actually understand the novel this time. |

Quoted: The Baron IS a sadistic twat... but yeah... the heart plug was not needed. Although, I loved Brad Dourif as Piter in the '84 version. You really got that psychotic sadist vibe off him. IMHO most of the actors are sjw. Except for Brolin. He's cool. Liet being a woman is going to be hard to watch. |

View Quote Yeah, everything I have heard, from leaks, from people interviewed who saw an early cut; indicate that it is a very good adaptation of the novel. So, while the baron does have his 'suspenders'; he doesn't fly around like the '84 version - and there are dark scenes appropriate to the character. |

Yep, I like how that one element, lasers hitting a shield creates a nuclear detonation fundamentally changed the face of warfare across the galaxy which made hand to hand combat very important again. Rather than going with "Knife and sword fighting is cool so lets have that be a thing in the far future even if it doesn't make a lot of sense." |

Looks great. I'm not a huge fan of the books, to be honest. I liked the first, but after that meh.
So, I'm not invested in this beyond a casual interest in the story but I love Villeneuve's work and it looks like it's going to be a visual feast. Timothy Chalamet was great in The King, so a solid choice IMHO. |

He didn't fly around, he was just so fucking fat that he needed suspensors to allow him to move around and be the perverted evil mastermind he was. The mini series got that so much better, though they did have him fly in a scene. As for the novels, I love the first three, but after that they were so dense I got lost. But I haven't re-read the later books since I was a teen so maybe I should try again. |
