If you can PID your target you can see your sights. We don’t use them on rifles, and we don’t need them on pistols.

Enough light on my target to id does not necessarily mean any light on my sights.
I find night sights also preferable in day time, but you don’t have to use them if you don’t want.

They may or may not actually help you make the shot when you need that shot to be made... but they sure a fuck ain't going to hurt.

My experience drove me to never get a pistol without night sites after an encounter while I was carrying a USGI 1911.

the only time i ever had my pistol out in a threatening situation, i could ID my target but it was still very nice to have that green dot rising up into my FOV.

i'm no grandmaester of pistolcraft, though.

I’ve been in plenty of scenarios that I could identify targets fine but my sights would ghost out. There are degrees of lighting outside lights on/lights off if you venture outside of the basement OP

Yes, OP, because light is always evenly dispersed in every environment. It’s either full sun or total darkness. There are no such things as shadows, backlighting or transitional light.

I've found them very useful

I also like them for finding the gun in the dark. Night sights are bright enough to allow you to see where the gun is on a nightstand at night. Same reason I have a tritium fob on my keychain.

I have tritium sights on every handgun I plan to actually use, unless they have an optic or are so small they don't have real sights (like some of my pocket guns).

Before reliable RDS I did have tritium sights on rifles and they used to be common on military rifles (the US being a notable exception, many other nations had night sights).
